Every week, tens of millions of EE customers use their Facebook or Instagram accounts to upload or watch videos.

Given user demand, we’re constantly looking to enhance our networks to make sure that our customers’ streaming experience is as smooth as possible.

Today, we’re delighted to share that following successful trials, we’ve implemented a new technical collaboration with Meta to deliver improved video performance, enabling a better and more stable customer experience on EE for Facebook and Instagram video services.

A shared goal for both companies is to deliver the best experience for our customers. Innovation is critical to this and sits at the heart of modern networks. Part of that work is focused on network efficiency. Helping content to get from A to B more efficiently helps our customers and our network. It leads to a more reliable connection, resulting in a better overall experience for customers. And for our network, it leads to a reduction in traffic load, which means less congestion, as well as a reduction in energy consumption.

Following the trials which saw video data traffic reduced by 20 percent over fixed and mobile networks, across a similar volume of videos, EE has led the way to implement this technology throughout the UK. In the future we will continue to fine-tune the technology, combining our expertise in network engineering, AI and data analytics.

With video content accounting for a majority of internet traffic, globally (an average consumer of Instagram and Facebook content spends 60 percent of their time just on video content), together, EE and Meta are paving the way for future innovations.

Working with leading companies in this space, including content companies and app developers, together we can drive innovation by leveraging leading technologies, to deliver better experiences for our shared customers, in a sustainable manner.
