Walk The Line: Simon Cowell's new talent show promises a big-money twist
The new talent show from the creator of The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent promises edge-of-the-seat event television as singers gamble to win a half-million-pound jackpot.
One-time Saturday night juggernaut The X Factor might have ended after 17 years, but the show’s creator Simon Cowell has wasted no time in bringing a brand entertainment new format to our screens this autumn.
Walk The Line takes the musical talent search and adds a high-stakes gamble which could see an act leave the show with a half-million pound prize pot.
How will Walk The Line work?
Walk The Line will run for six evenings. In every episode, musical acts - soloists, duos, bands and choirs - will perform in front of Cowell and a panel of judges.
Each night, the winning act will given a choice: to cash out and leave with a modest sum, or to stay in the contest and compete against new acts the following night, when they could move closer to the £500,000 jackpot or lose everything.
“We wanted to develop a show which will give the contestants a life-changing cash prize if they win,” said Cowell.
“Each show there will be a champion who must make a vital decision: either cash out then and there or stay in the contest to compete again the following night and have a chance to claim the huge prize.
“It’s the kind of decision that will have viewers on the edge of their seats – real event TV.
“I’m very excited at giving musical talent the opportunity to transform their lives like never before.”
Who is the host of Walk The Line?
Walk the Line will be hosted by Maya Jama, above. The former Radio 1 DJ became the youngest presenter of the MOBO Awards aged 23 in 2017, and has also appeared on Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Gogglebox and Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star.
Over the last two summers, football fan Maya co-hosted Save Our Summer and Crouchy's Year-Late Euros: Live alongside Peter Crouch.
“If someone said to me, describe your dream job, it would be this!” she said.
“I literally couldn’t be more excited to be working with Syco, Lifted Entertainment and the incredible team at ITV on Walk The Line.”
Who are the judges?
Other that Simon Cowell himself, the identity of the judges is still unknown.
When is Walk The Line on ITV?
Walk The Line will debut on ITV and ITV Hub later in the autumn.
