The X-Files to The Crown: Gillian Anderson’s best TV shows
Mar 28 | 2 min readKatherine Kelly has been extremely busy in recent years.
In 2012, at the fourth time of asking she won a National Television Award for Best Serial Drama Performance for her performance as Becky McDonald in Coronation Street and since leaving the soap in 2013, her career has gone from strength-to-strength with leading roles in highly-rated dramas.
We take a look at her best roles to date.
Coronation Street
Katherine originally joined Coronation Street on a three-month contract, but she impressed bosses so much that she ended up staying for six years.
Her character Becky McDonald was a no-nonsense ex-con, whose feisty personality was well-loved by viewers.
Classic episodes of Coronation Street from 1960 until 2020 are available on BritBox.
Mr Selfridge
This period drama series, about Harry Gordon Selfridge and his department store, saw Katherine play Lady Mae Loxley in series 1, 2 and 4.
Lady Mae was the ally of Jeremy Piven’s Harry, and used her contacts to help finance the store while struggling with a loveless marriage to Lord Loxley.
All four seasons of Mr Selfridge are available on BritBox.

Criminal: UK
This stripped-back police anthology series stars Katherine as DCI Natalie Hobbs, who is seen grilling suspects within the confines of a police interrogation room.
It’s a simple premise, but the psychological game of cat and mouse between the interviewer and suspect keeps viewers gripped until the very end of each story.
Criminal: UK season 1 is available on Netflix.

Liar seasons 1 and 2 are available on BritBox.
Innocent
Katherine takes on another gritty role in the second series of Innocent.
She plays Lake District teacher Sally Wright, who was convicted of murdering one of her pupils and is now fighting against all odds to prove her innocence and get her life back.
