Mixing blood and gore with coming-of-age teen troubles and young love, The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself is the latest creation from Giri/Haji and Lazarus Project mastermind Joe Barton.

Inspired by the hit Half Bad book series, Barton’s series is a mature and twisted take on the supernatural teen drama formula.

All eight episodes of season 1 are streaming now on NetflixBT TV caught up with two of the show’s breakout stars, Nadia Parkes and Emilien Vekemans, who play Annalise and Gabriel.

"Expect darkness, loads of humour, loads of romance and loads of gore. Strap in and expect a wild ride," explained Parkes, when asked to describe the series.

Commenting on the subtext in the series, Vekemans said: "The story is about identity and how it can evolve when you are a teenager. When you discover who you are. What is your sexuality?"

Parkes added: "What is your belief system? Who do you want to trust? Who do you want to love? It’s a coming-of-age story for every character in the show, even if they’re a grown up."
