What is a Monthly Payment Plan?

A Monthly Payment Plan lets you spread the cost of your quarterly bill by making fixed monthly payments straight to BT by Direct Debit.

We estimate your monthly payments based on your usage and review them each quarter or when you change your products with us. This is to make sure you’re paying the correct amount. If you’re paying the wrong amount, we’ll let you know through your quarterly bill and automatically adjust your payments.

Is a Monthly Payment Plan for me?

You should consider setting up a Monthly Payment Plan if:

  • You have consistent call charges
  • You want to pay a fixed amount each month so you can budget
  • You don’t mind that your monthly payments may change each quarter if you're paying too much or too little, or if you change your products with us

A monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit may suit you better if you'd prefer to pay your exact bill amount each month.

Please note that Monthly Payment Plan isn't available if you're a BT TV, BT Sport or BT Mobile customer.

Can I change my monthly payments myself?

Yes, you can. If you want to reduce your monthly payments, or clear a debit balance on your account, you can make a one-off payment using a debit or credit card.

If your account was in credit when your last bill was produced, you may be able to reduce your payments by logging into your My BT account at www.bt.com/managepayment and going to Change payment method  > Change amount

More questions about Monthly Payment Plans:

Every 3 months. Your statement is included on your quarterly bill and will show:

  • Your account balance when your last statement was produced (whether it’s in credit or debit)
  • The monthly payments you’ve added in the quarter
  • Your rental and usage charges
  • Your new account balance

This could be because the payments you're making don't cover the amount you're spending. This will help you pay off the amount you owe and make sure your payments cover what you spend in the future. Or it could be because you’ve been paying more than you need to and it's changed to make sure you don’t pay too much.

BT phone line and/or BT Broadband customers

When you take a new product, or cancel an existing one, your monthly payments are reviewed to make sure you're still paying the right amount. We’ll let you know how your payments are changing and take the new payment amount from you the following month.

Buying BT TV, BT Sport or BT Mobile

Monthly Payment Plan works best for customers with a BT phone line and/or BT Broadband. If you take another BT product like BT TV, BT Sport or BT Mobile, you’ll need to pay by Whole Bill Direct Debit. With a Whole Bill Direct Debit, you pay your full bill at the end of each month or quarter. This change will happen automatically when you place your order.

Please note that if you have a debit balance on your account when you switch to Whole Bill Direct Debit, your next bill will be higher than usual as you'll have to pay this balance off. You can view the balance on your account on your latest bill on My BT >

Yes, you can. You can change the date you pay your bill twice in 12 months. Just log on at www.bt.com/managepayment and go to Change when you pay.

Alternatively, you can call 0800 44 33 11.

Your monthly payment includes an amount for call usage that you may use outside your calling plan. If you end up overpaying, we'll reduce your later payments accordingly.

If you're in credit by more than one monthly payment, we may give you a 'payment holiday' for up to 3 months. During this time we won't take money from your account. The length of the payment holiday depends on the amount of credit on your account.

When you're no longer in credit by more than one monthly payment, we'll carry on taking your payments as normal. They may also be reduced if necessary to make sure that you’re paying the right amount.

You can pay using Whole Bill Direct Debit instead, paying your bill by Direct Debit each month or quarter. Just log into your My BT account at www.bt.com/managepayment and go to Change how you pay your bill.

Alternatively, you can call 0800 44 33 11.

Please note that if you have a debit balance on your account when you switch to Whole Bill Direct Debit, your next bill will be higher than usual as you'll have to pay this balance off. You can view the balance on your account on your latest bill on My BT >
