Saturday 27 November
Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli delivered a tag-team double salvo as Arsenal dispatched Newcastle 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
England forward Saka capped a neat move to put Arsenal ahead, before his replacement Martinelli killed the Premier League contest with just his second touch.
Saka’s second Premier League goal of the season ensured Mikel Arteta’s men would hold onto fifth place in the table.
Crystal Palace 1-2 Aston Villa
Steven Gerrard got the better of Patrick Vieira in the battle of the Premier League greats after goals from Matt Targett and John McGinn secured a 2-1 win for Aston Villa at Crystal Palace.
Two of the finest midfielders of their generation went head-to-head on the touchline for the first time in a competitive match and it was Gerrard who was able to celebrate a second consecutive victory since he left Rangers for the West Midlands club.
An early goal by Targett put Villa in the ascendency and McGinn wrapped up a deserved three points late on before Marc Guehi netted a consolation for the hosts in stoppage time.
Liverpool 4-0 Southampton
Liverpool turned up the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea as they coasted to a second successive 4-0 victory at Anfield with Southampton the powerless victims on this occasion.
Saints were dispatched as comfortably as Arsenal were a week ago as Jurgen Klopp’s side moved within a point of the top, in the process becoming the first top-flight team to score two or more goals for 17 matches in a row since Sunderland in 1927.
Second-placed Liverpool have now netted 39 times in 13 matches and no player has more Premier League goals individually this season than any of the starting front three of Mohamed Salah (11), Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota (both seven).
Norwich 0-0 Wolves
Wolves were able to hold off a late Norwich challenge to secure a point in a goalless draw at Carrow Road.
Dean Smith’s tenure got off to a winning start with a 2-1 home victory against Southampton last weekend and it was followed up by a significant point against a top-half Wolves team.
The visitors went into the game having won five of their previous seven matches but struggled to find their rhythm.
Norwich had just one victory to their name when Smith replaced Daniel Farke just eight days after his own dismissal at Aston Villa and the Canaries have four points from his first two games as they pulled level on points with 18th-placed Burnley – although they have played a game more.
Brighton 0-0 Leeds
Neal Maupay blazed over an open goal as wasteful Brighton saw their winless streak stretch to eight Premier League games following a frustrating goalless draw with Leeds.
Recalled top scorer Maupay, back in Albion’s team after three substitute appearances, somehow squandered a golden opportunity with just eight minutes gone on a bitterly-cold evening at the Amex Stadium.
Graham Potter’s Seagulls dominated the contest but, despite the best creative efforts of energetic star man Tariq Lamptey, failed to capitalise on a host of chances.
Lively Leandro Trossard and substitute Solly March each rattled the woodwork, while luckless Frenchman Maupay and Jakub Moder wasted further excellent openings.
Sunday 28 November
Brentford 1-0 Everton
Ivan Toney came back to haunt his old boss Rafael Benitez with his first-half penalty enough to give Brentford a 1-0 victory over Everton.
The result extended the Toffees’ winless run to seven matches and increased the pressure on the new manager at Goodison Park ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside derby with his former club Liverpool.
A cool spot-kick by Toney in the 24th minute gave the Bees a first home league win since the opening day and it felt inevitable the forward would have a say on the game after Benitez had been his manager for the majority of his time at Newcastle where he was given limited opportunities.
Burnley P-P Tottenham
Burnley’s game fell victim to the weather just under an hour before its scheduled 2pm kick-off.
Attempts to clear the pitch were in vain as the undersoil heating struggled to cope and snow fell as quickly as it could be removed.
The announcement was made shortly after both sides had named their teams for the match.
Leicester 4-2 Watford
James Maddison inspired Leicester to a swashbuckling 4-2 win over Watford to ruin Claudio Ranieri’s return.
The England international grabbed a goal and two assists for Jamie Vardy as the Foxes closed the gap to the top six.
Maddison, fresh from starring in Thursday’s Europa League win over Legia Warsaw, shone again while Ademola Lookman’s strike also helped Leicester claim just a third win in 10 Premier League games in blizzard conditions.
Manchester City 2-1 West Ham
Champions Manchester City overcame heavy snow and a battling West Ham side to claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Sunday.
Ilkay Gundogan tapped home after 33 minutes and Fernandinho added a late second at the Etihad Stadium as the champions kept up the pressure at the top of the Premier League.
West Ham pulled one back through Manuel Lanzini in stoppage time but it would prove no more than a consolation.
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Jorginho atoned for his error to score from the penalty spot and earn Premier League leaders Chelsea a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
United, led by caretaker manager Michael Carrick for the first time in a league game, took the lead five minutes into the second half when Jadon Sancho pounced on Jorginho’s poor touch and slotted past Edouard Mendy.
Jorginho redeemed himself as Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was adjudged to have fouled Thiago Silva, and the Italy midfielder made no mistake from the spot.
