Every BT ID has an account role. You’ll be either an account holder or an account manager.
What is a BT ID, and how can I get one?
Account holder (primary BT ID)
You’re the legal owner of the account. You’re responsible for paying the bills and deciding who can access the BT services you pay for.
As the account holder, you can:
- Use the services on the account.
- View and pay bills.
- Manage account settings online.
- Manage phone settings.
- Access all BT Extras, including EE WiFi, BT Email, True Key, BT Parental Controls, Web Threat Protect and BT Virus Protect.
Account manager (additional BT ID)
You have access to someone else’s BT account and some of the services they pay for. The account holder decides what you can access.
As an account manager, you can:
- View bills.
- Manage settings online.
- Manage phone settings.
- Access some BT Extras, including BT Email, True Key and BT Virus Protect.
How to check your BT ID role
To see which role is linked to your BT ID:
- Log in to My BT.
- Select Settings and Your account.
- Scroll down to see whether you’re an account holder or an account manager.
If your BT ID is linked to more than one account number, you may have a different role for each account.
I should be the account holder, but I'm listed as the account manager?
If your role doesn’t look right, you can update it in My BT.
- Log in to My BT.
- Select Settings and Your account.
- Scroll down to check your role.
- Select I should be the account holder and follow the steps.
If you’re stuck, get in touch, and one of our team will help.
How do I become an account manager?
If you already have a BT ID
- Log in to My BT.
- Select Settings and Your account.
- Scroll down to check your role.
- Go to Multiple accounts, then select Add an account.
- Follow the steps. You’ll need the BT account number you want to manage.
If you don't have a BT ID
You’ll need an email address and the BT account number you want to manage.
Create a BT ID and, when you sign up, choose I do not want this to be the Primary BT ID for this account
Once you’re set up, the account holder will see you listed as an account manager on their accounts screen.
