Keeping my phone number when I move home

The UK’s ageing and unreliable copper landline network is being retired.
When BT contacts you, take action to avoid disruption to your home phone or broadband services

Further information and support are available on our Connected Together website, or by calling 0330 1234 150.

Moving within the same area

If your new address is connected to the same exchange, you can usually keep your number for no extra cost.

When you tell us about your move, we’ll let you know whether you can keep your number and provide an estimate of your new broadband speed.

Moving to a new area

If your new home is connected to a different exchange, you can't keep your number because the dialling code is different.

However, don't worry. We’ll let you know during the moving process and give you a new number for free.

Switching to BT

If you’re joining BT from another provider, you can usually bring your existing number.

Just tell us your current provider and the number you want to keep. We’ll handle the rest.

How to get started

If you're already with BT and want to move your service, visit our Moving home page.

If you're moving home and want BT Broadband, visit our Switch broadband to BT page.

We’ll check your new address, confirm if you can keep your number, and make sure everything goes smoothly.
