Digital Voice most common fixes

If your Digital Voice service isn’t working, most issues can be fixed in just a few simple steps. This guide helps you quickly identify your setup and follow the right fix, whether you’re using your own phone, a BT Digital Voice handset, or a mix of both.

Restarting your BT Smart Hub can often fix most issues and only takes 2 minutes to complete. It refreshes your connection and updates your Digital Voice service. If you need more help, then choose your set-up below.

Follow these steps if you're using your own phone. Most issues are fixed in just a few minutes.

Check that your phone is connected correctly

Make sure your phone is plugged into the right place, either:

  • the green phone port on the back of your hub
  • a Digital Voice Adapter

Restart your hub

This fixes most issues and only takes 2 minutes to complete.

  1. Turn your hub off.
  2. Wait 2 minutes.
  3. Turn it back on.

This refreshes your connection and updates your Digital Voice service.

Reconnect your Digital Voice adapter

  1. Open a browser on a device connected to your hub.
  2. Enter 192.168.1.254 into the address bar.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. De-register any connected devices.
  5. Follow the steps to re-register your adapter.

Restart your hub

Turn your hub off for 2 full minutes, then back on. This helps your phone reconnect with the latest settings and reconnects your adapter.

Follow these steps if you're using a BT handset.

How to re-register your handset

  1. Go to 192.168.1.254 in your browser.
  2. Select Phone.
  3. De-register your handset.
  4. Plug the handset into an electrical socket near your hub.

Choose an electrical socket close to your hub to reconnect your devices. Don't worry you can move these further away once things are working again.

Connect your handset

  1. Select Register this handset to the hub on your handset.
  2. Press and hold the WPS button on your hub for 6 seconds.
  3. Wait for Handset registered on screen.

Restart your hub

This fixes most issues and only takes 2 minutes to complete.

  1. Turn your hub off.
  2. Wait 2 minutes.
  3. Turn it back on.

This refreshes your connection and updates your Digital Voice service.

If you’re using both your own phone and BT handsets, follow these steps.

Check everything is connected

  • Your own phone should be plugged into the green port on your Smart Hub or an adapter.
  • Your Digital Voice handsets should be powered on.

Remove all connected devices

  1. Go to 192.168.1.254 in your browser
  2. Select Phone.
  3. De-register all devices.

Reconnect your devices

Choose an electrical socket close to your hub to start to reconnect your devices. Don't worry you can move these further away once things are working again.

Digital Voice Adapters

  1. Press the WPS button on your Smart Hub for 6 seconds.
  2. Press the WPS button on the adapter for 6 seconds.

Digital Voice Handsets

  1. Select Register this handset to the hub.
  2. Press the WPS button on the your hub for 6 seconds.
  3. Wait for Handset registered to display.

Restart your hub

  2. Wait 2 minutes.
  3. Turn it back on.

This refreshes your connection and updates your Digital Voice service.
