What's the difference between an Account holder and an Account manager in My BT?

Every BT ID has an account role attached to it. You'll either be an Account holder or an Account manager.

Every BT ID has an account role attached to it:  'Account holder' or 'Account manager.'

Account holders are:

  • the legal owners of the account
  • responsible for paying the bills
  • responsible for deciding who has access to BT services on the account 
  • allowed to manage settings along 
  • allowed to view bills
  • allowed to ccess all BT Extras such as BT Sport, BT Cloud, BT Wi-fi, BT Email, TrueKey, BT Parental Controls, BT Web Protect and BT Virus Protect

Account managers can:

  • view bills
  • manage settings online
  • manage phone settings
  • access some BT Extras such as BT Email, TrueKey and BT Virus Protect

Check what role you have

Check your role in the ‘Account’ section of your settings in My BT (after you have signed in, select ‘Your details’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Account’)

Become the ‘account holder'

Choose ‘I should be the account holder’ in the ‘Account’ section of your settings in My BT (after you have signed in, select ‘Your details’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Account’).

You need a My BT ID (account).

Become the ‘account manager’

  1. Go to the ‘Account’ section of your settings in My BT (after you have signed in, select ‘Your details’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Account’).

  2. Under ‘Multiple accounts’ select ‘Add an account’ 

You'll need the BT account number of the account you'd like to manage. 

If you don’t have a BT ID, you’ll need to create a BT ID - make sure you select 'I do not want this to be the Primary BT ID for this account' when you sign up.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to My BT >
  2. Click on Settings and Your account
  3. Scroll down and you'll see if you're an Account holder or Account manager
  4. Click on the I should be the Account holder link and follow the steps

If you've already got a BT ID, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to My BT >
  2. Click on Settings and Your account
  3. Scroll down and you’ll see if you’re an Account holder or Account manager
  4. To add an account, go to Multiple accounts then click Add an account and follow the steps. You'll need the BT account number of the account you'd like to manage online

If you haven't got a BT ID and want to become an Account manager on someone else's account:

  1. You need an email address and the BT account number of the account you want to manage
  2. Follow these steps to Create a BT ID - make sure you select 'I do not want this to be the Primary BT ID for this account' when you sign up
  3. Once you're set up, the Account holder will see you as an Account manager on their accounts screen
