Wolves 2-1 Chelsea
Pedro Neto’s dramatic injury-time winner stunned Chelsea as they lost 2-1 at Wolves to miss the chance to go top of the Premier League.
Daniel Podence cancelled out Olivier Giroud’s opener before Neto hit Chelsea on the break at the death to complete Wolves’ comeback.
Victory would have taken Chelsea top but they slipped to a second-straight defeat following Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Everton.
Man City 1-1 West Brom
Manchester City’s lack of cutting edge proved costly again as they were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling West Brom to remain off the pace at the top of the Premier League.
Ilkay Gundogan fired them ahead on the half-hour mark but after a Ruben Dias own goal brought the Baggies level just before half-time, City struggled to find a way through the most porous defence in the league.
There was late drama as Sam Johnstone made point-blank saves to deny Gundogan and Raheem Sterling in time added on but a late twist would have been harsh on the Baggies and flattered this City performance.
Wednesday 16
Arsenal 1-1 Southampton
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended his five-match goal drought to help 10-man Arsenal avoid a record fifth consecutive home league loss in a 1-1 draw with high-flying Southampton.
Captain Aubameyang started the process of atoning for his own goal in Sunday’s miserable 1-0 home loss to Burnley, sweeping in a neat finish as Arsenal scrambled a Premier League point at the Emirates Stadium.
Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott had put the again-impressive Southampton into an early lead with a high-quality effort.
The Gunners had Gabriel sent off for two bookings in four minutes – the first a pointless act of petulance in kicking away the ball.
Leeds 5-2 Newcastle
Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison struck in the final quarter of an hour as Leeds leapfrogged opponents Newcastle in the Premier League table following an entertaining 5-2 victory.
The visitors went ahead against the run of play midway through the first half through Jeff Hendrick, but goals either side of the interval from Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo turned the game on its head.
Ciaran Clark levelled soon after Rodrigo’s goal, but Dallas restored Leeds’ advantage, while swift counter-attacks led to Alioski and Harrison getting on the scoresheet – the latter finding the top corner from 25 yards.
Leicester 0-2 Everton
Everton sent a warning to their top-four rivals after an impressive 2-0 win at Leicester.
Richarlison’s first Premier League goal for three months and Mason Holgate’s maiden top-flight strike earned the disciplined Toffees victory.
It was the Foxes’ fourth defeat in seven league games at the King Power Stadium as their home woes threaten to undermine their own legitimate top-four chances.
They dominated possession but could not break down a stubborn Toffees side who rose to fifth, a point and a place behind Leicester.
Fulham 0-0 Brighton
Fulham moved out of the bottom three following a hard-fought goalless draw with Brighton at Craven Cottage.
Adam Lallana thought he had scored his first goal for Brighton since joining the club in the summer, but it was ruled out by VAR for a handball in the build-up.
Scott Parker’s men went into the game having taken four points from their last three games against Leicester, Manchester City and Liverpool and another point against the Seagulls saw them move out of the relegation places on goal difference.
It was a cagey game of few chances, which resulted in just eight shots on target – four from each team – as neither side was able to find a decisive breakthrough.
Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham
Roberto Firmino’s 90th-minute header sparked wild scenes at Anfield as defending champions Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over previous incumbents Tottenham.
In a victory reminiscent of so many which carried them to their first title in 30 years last season, the hosts’ relentlessness was rewarded when the Brazil international powered home a header from Andy Robertson’s corner with the seconds ticking down.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho looked sickened, having assumed his side had done enough to earn the point which would have kept them at the summit.
West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace
Sebastien Haller’s spectacular strike rescued a point for West Ham in a 1-1 derby draw against Crystal Palace.
The £45million striker, in danger of being labelled a costly flop after a string of underwhelming displays, netted with a stunning overhead kick to cancel out Christian Benteke’s opener.
Benteke went from hero to zero after the break when sent off for catching Tomas Soucek with his trailing arm as they went up for a header, but 10-man Palace held out for a point.
Thursday 17
Aston Villa 0-0 Burnley
Wasteful Aston Villa were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by battling Burnley.
The hosts dominated without being at their best but were thwarted by the Clarets, who climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Anwar El Ghazi and Kortney Hause hit the woodwork while Matt Lowton cleared a deflected strike from Ahmed Elmohamady off the line.
Burnley’s threat was limited – Chris Wood having their best chance saved – but Sean Dyche’s side are now unbeaten in three after a tricky run against Everton, Arsenal and Villa.
Sheffield Utd 2-3 Man Utd
Marcus Rashford’s brace helped comeback kings Manchester United overcome Dean Henderson’s early gaffe at former club Sheffield United and continue their 100 per cent Premier League record on the road.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side kicked off a crucial run of six matches in 16 days in familiar fashion at the beleaguered Blades, where this season’s run of winning away league games after falling behind extended to a sixth match.
Rashford and Anthony Martial turned things around in a first half that started with Henderson inexpiably allowing David McGoldrick to score, with Rashford extending Manchester United’s advantage at the end of a fine team move early in the second half.
