The Premier League is back with another round of intriguing fixtures at both the top and bottom of the division.

With several sides in European action in midweek, there could be the potential for some surprise results.

We take a look at each match ahead of what promises to be a fascinating weekend, with BT Sport bringing you live coverage of Everton vs Man Utd on Sunday evening.

Sunday 9 October

Crystal Palace vs Leeds - 2pm kick-off on NOW via BT TV

Crystal Palace’s promising start to the season seems like a long time ago now.

Patrick Vieira’s team are in real need of a victory after a run of four games without a win, although they can justifiably claim to have been slightly unfortunate in recent weeks.

A late stunner from ex-Palace loanee Gallagher consigned the Eagles to defeat last time out and left them in 17th, only outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference.

Palace have had some tough fixtures, though, and will hope to put a run together starting with Sunday’s clash with Leeds.

Jesse Marsch’s side are also on a difficult run, losing 5-2 at Brentford before the international break and following that up with a frustrating goalless draw against Aston Villa last time out.

This is a difficult one to call, but both teams will be eager to taste victory again.

Leeds’ Luis Sinisterra will miss the game through suspension after his red card against Villa, while Adam Forshaw, Cody Drameh and Leo Hjelde are doubts.

For Palace, Nathaniel Clyne picked up an injury against Chelsea and is set for a spell on the sidelines. Joachim Anderson, one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season, is also out of action.

West Ham vs Fulham - 2pm kick-off

West London meets east London on Sunday as Fulham make the short trip to West Ham.

The Hammers have been buoyed by a 2-0 win over Wolves last time out, which they followed up with a 1-0 victory over Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League.

David Moyes’ side appear to have got things back on track after an uncharacteristically poor start to the season. Wins are still needed, though, with just seven points on the board eight games into their Premier League campaign.

Fulham, meanwhile, have been inconsistent of late, losing then winning then losing before winning again. It was a defeat last weekend, and their heaviest since their return to the top flight, as they were dispatched by a clinical Newcastle side.

But Marco Silva’s team remain well-placed in eighth and their attacking, bold style of play has largely served them well.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has made a prolific start to the season, is an injury doubt after coming off in the first-half of the Newcastle defeat. That will be a significant blow for the Cottagers, who will also be without the suspended Nathaniel Chalobah.

West Ham’s only new injury concern is Maxwel Cornet, who is not expected to return in time for Sunday’s match.

Arsenal vs Liverpool - 4.30pm kick-off on NOW via BT TV

The standout fixture of matchday ten comes from the Emirates as league leaders Arsenal host Liverpool.

This is a true test of the Gunners’ title-challenging credentials, particularly after such an impressive win over their local rivals.

Liverpool’s problems this season have been well-documented but Jurgen Klopp has a strong record against Arsenal. The Reds, though they sit in mid-table as things stand, will have aspirations of closing the 11-point gap at the top.

And they have proved in previous seasons that they are more than capable of making unlikely surges up the table. If everything clicks, if the defensive issues are resolved, Liverpool will surely be contenders again.

Mikel Arteta will hope things don’t fall into place for the visitors on Sunday, but this is an Arsenal side playing with genuine self-belief. For the first time in a long time, they head into a game against Liverpool as slight favourites.

Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are still out of contention for Arsenal, while Cedric Soares suffered an injury during the week.

Liverpool will assess the fitness of Andy Robertson, and there could be a return to the squad for Ibrahima Konate.

Everton vs Man Utd - 6.30pm (7pm kick-off) on BT Sport 1

BT Sport’s exclusive live game this weekend comes from Goodison Park, where Manchester United travel to Goodison Park aiming to redeem themselves after their derby mauling at Man City.

Everton might well fancy their chances having put together a promising run of form in recent weeks, following up victory over West Ham with a 2-1 win at Southampton last time out.

Frank Lampard’s side have the best defensive record in the division, letting in just seven goals so far. Conversely, they’ve only scored seven, but there is a solidity about the Toffees that should stave off any fears of a relegation battle. And at Goodison, Everton are almost always difficult to beat. 

United, after the 6-3 loss at the Etihad, won unconvincingly against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League, but the reinvigoration of Anthony Martial, who has scored three goals from the bench in the past week, is a real positive.

It remains to be seen if Erik ten Hag’s side will be feeling the effects of their Thursday night exploits, but this will be a tough test for United regardless.

Full-back Nathan Patterson, who has impressed for Everton, picked up an injury on international duty, so he will miss this match. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could make his return after a spell on the sidelines.

United have no fresh injury worries, although calls for Casemiro and Martial to start could well come to fruition.

Monday 10 October

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa - 8pm kick-off on NOW via BT TV

Forest subverted expectations on Friday when they announced a new three-year contract for manager Steve Cooper, who had been touted by many as the next Premier League boss to lose his job.

The club’s owners will, however, expect that backing to translate into results on the pitch, starting with Monday night’s meeting with Aston Villa.

Steven Gerrard is another manager under pressure, and anything less than a win against the division’s bottom side will raise eyebrows in Birmingham.

Villa have improved of late, though, battling to a point against Leeds last weekend after a much-needed win against Southampton before the international break.

Forest are in especially dire need of a result to arrest a run of five successive defeats, so there should be an intense feel to proceedings at the City Ground.

Matty Cash could return to action for Villa against his former club, while left-back Ludwig Augustinsson is expected to miss around three weeks of football with a hamstring injury. Villa will also assess the fitness of Leon Bailey before the match.

For Forest, Orel Mangala could feature again after returning in the 4-0 defeat to Leicester. Cooper has a relatively injury-free squad at his disposal, so his biggest dilemma is picking from the multitude of players signed in the summer.
