Olympiacos 0-1 Man City - Watch Replay
Manchester City qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League for the eighth season in a row thanks to a 1-0 win over Olympiacos sealed by Phil Foden’s lovely strike.
The home side were without a host of key players and City were dominant in Athens throughout without truly getting out of second gear.
Pep Guardiola’s men managed 22 shots and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but had to wait until the 36th minute to make the breakthrough.
The strike came after some delightful build-up play featuring Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling that teed up Foden for a neat finish past Jose Sa.
Gladbach 4-0 Shakhtar - Watch Replay
Borussia Monchengladbach tore apart Shakhtar Donetsk to go top of Group B in a clinical display of attacking football in Wednesday’s other early kick-off.
Captain Lars Stindl gave the Germans the lead from the penalty spot before taking the corner from which Nico Elvedi headed home a second.
Breel Embolo’s overhead kick from close range made it 3-0 and Oscar Wendt put the seal on a resounding victory with a cross-cum-shot that flew in.
Liverpool 0-2 Atalanta - Watch Replay
Following a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool a fortnight ago, Atalanta turned the tables on the holders by stunning them 2-0 at Anfield.
Liverpool named a weakened side for the visit of the Serie A side and were punished in the second half through two goals in four minutes.
First Josip Ilicic finished off a well-worked move to tuck past Alisson before Robin Gosens took advantage of some casual marking to smash in a second.
Inter 0-2 Real Madrid - Watch Replay
Real Madrid outclassed Inter Milan to all-but end the Italians hopes of making it to the Champions League knockout stages.
Eden Hazard’s first European goal from the spot gave Zinedine Zidane’s men an early lead at the San Siro before Inter gave themselves a mountain to climb with a moment of madness from Arturo Vidal.
Vidal was booked for a challenge before losing his cool and confronting referee Anthony Taylor aggressively, earning the Chilean a quickfire second yellow before half-time.
Madrid were a cut above 10-man Inter in the second half and made sure of the three points thanks to substitute Rodrygo’s clean finish at the back post.
Bayern Munich 3-1 RB Salzburg - Watch Replay
Bayern did what Bayern do best on Wednesday night as the Germans punished Salzburg with some clinical finishing to ease to a 3-0 win.
The Germans took the lead just before half-time when Robert Lewandowski tucked in a rebound to end the Austrian's early resolve.
It was 2-0 after the break when Kingsley Coman's shot was deflected into his own net by Maximillian Wober but Salzburg were given a glimmer of hope when Bayern's Marc Roca saw red.
But the defending champions made light of their disadvantage when Leroy Sane, on as a substitute, headed Bayern into a 3-0 lead before Mergim Berisha netted a consolation.
Marseille 0-2 Porto - Watch Replay
Porto strengthened their grip on Group C and ended Marseille’s hopes of qualifying with a comfortable 2-0 win in France.
Despite a bright start, Marseille fell behind when Zaidu Sanusi scored from a corner against the run of play before Porto’s on-loan Liverpool midfielder Marco Grujic received a red card.
But Marseille levelled things up when Leonardo Balerdi was himself shown red three minutes later with a foul for a penalty – which was converted by Sergio Oliveira.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Lokomotiv Moscow - Watch Replay
Atletico Madrid were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Lokomotiv Moscow despite dominating the Russian visitors at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone's men had the ball in the back of the net through Koke but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
Lokomotiv had chances of their own through Ze Luiz but the game would finished honours even in the Spanish capital.
Ajax 3-1 Midtjylland - Watch Replay
Ajax breezed past Midtjylland in Amsterdam with three second-half goals to go level on points with Liverpool at the top of Group D.
Ryan Gravenberch’s sumptious strike gave Ajax the lead two minutes after half-time before Noussair Mazraoui’s goal two minutes later made it 2-0.
David Neres sealed all three points in the 66th minute for the Dutch giants before Awer Mabil’s penalty 10 minutes from time got the Danish side on the board. Erik Sviatchenko received a late red for the visitors who crash out in the group stages.
