BT Sport's new Matchday Experience revolutionises how fans watch live sport

BT Sport is proud to annouce that its revolutionary Matchday Experience option is to be made available to all subscribers with the award-winning BT Sport app.

With sports fans currently unable to watch live action in stadiums, our Matchday Experience technology puts spectators back at the heart of the action using immersive and innovative viewing features, including augmented reality and 360° cameras.

Every Game. One Venue.

Watch every single Premier League game live with our sports-based TV deals, including 52 per season exclusively on BT Sport.

Launched earlier this season to select BT Sport customers using iPhone or iPad devices, Matchday Experience offers fans sports viewing features not available anywhere else.

From Tuesday February 2 onwards, the game-changing technology is available to all BT Sport customers with the BT Sport app, including Android users.

Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer at BT Sport, said: “These new features build on the BT Sport app’s award-winning reputation for providing the UK’s ultimate sports viewing experience.

He added: "At this moment of social distancing and crowd-less sport, Matchday Experience gets fans closer than ever to the sports they love.

"We are proud to continue giving our customers even more ways to watch and experience sport – such as the ability to watch live with three friends, and the chance to be at the stadia through ground-breaking augmented reality.”

What does the Match Day Experience include?

Watch Together

The only way in the UK for fans to enjoy live sport with their friends.

Using a split-screen interface, app users can watch any BT Sport live broadcast along with three other subscribers.

Any BT Sport customer can create their own Watch Together room and invite anyone else who is also a BT Sport customer to join them to create a unique match-viewing experience.

360°

Watch live action from a range of sporting events with BT Sport’s best ever 360° service.

BT Sport was the first in the world to offer live sports in a 360° view and the enhanced Matchday Experience provides picture quality never seen before.

A new “pinch and zoom” functionality enables fans to home in on their desired areas of interest to recreate the feeling of being at the ground. 360° offers viewers the chance to select different camera angles and viewpoints not normally seen in TV broadcasts.

It also provides a completely different viewing experience from the usual fixed-camera positions, allowing viewers to look around in all directions.

Stadium Experience

Go behind the scenes at some of the most iconic sporting venues in the country.

Using an Augmented Reality doorway in the BT Sport app, subscribers are transported from their sofas to the heart of the gameday experience.

Depending on the club and stadium, this view include access to rarely-seen areas such like dressing rooms, dugouts, trophy rooms and tunnel areas.

Please note this feature is for iOS devices only - it will be made available on Android soon

Matchday Live

Fans can access team line-ups, formations and in-game stats brought to life through stunning Augmented Reality from wherever they are watching the action.

Manager Mode

BT Sport app users have the choice of adding real-time graphics to their viewing experience.

The feature provides informative and insightful stats such as player names, player speeds, and a mini-map tracking the positions of all players for a unique tactical viewpoint.

BT Sport's shot velocity trackers is also now available so Manager Mode users can track every effort during the match.

All five Matchday Experience features will be available to every BT Sport customer around BT Sport's Saturday lunchtime Premier League matches.

In addition, all five Matchday Experience features will be available around select midweek Premier League games, including Manchester United v Southampton on Wednesday 3 February and the London derby between Tottenham and Chelsea on Thursday 4 February.

Feature availability will expand over the coming season around BT Sport’s coverage of certain matches from the UEFA Champions League, Emirates FA Cup and Gallagher Premiership Rugby, as well as specific boxing events.
