BT Sport is proud to offer its revolutionary Matchday Experience option to all subscribers with the award-winning BT Sport app.

Our technology puts spectators at the heart of the action using immersive and innovative viewing features, including augmented reality and 360° cameras.

BT Sport Monthly Pass

Join the home of live sport for just £29.99 per month. Get instant access to the BT Sport app, with no contract and no BT broadband required.

Launched last season to select BT Sport customers using iPhone or iPad devices, Matchday Experience offers fans sports viewing features not available anywhere else.

The game-changing technology was made available to all BT Sport customers with the BT Sport app, including Android users, in February 2021.

BT Sport has also made some exciting new additions for the 2021/22 season, with Manager Mode and Hype Mode now available on selected Premier League, Champions League and Europa League broadcasts - more on these anon.

Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer at BT Sport, said: “These new features build on the BT Sport app’s award-winning reputation for providing the UK’s ultimate sports viewing experience.

"We are proud to continue giving our customers even more ways to watch and experience sport – such as the ability to watch live with three friends, and the chance to be at the stadia through ground-breaking augmented reality.”

What does Matchday Experience include?

Watch Together

The only way in the UK for fans to enjoy live sport with their friends.

Using a split-screen interface, app users can watch any BT Sport live broadcast along with three other subscribers.

Any BT Sport customer can create their own Watch Together room and invite anyone else who is also a BT Sport customer to join them to create a unique match-viewing experience.

360°

Watch live action from a range of sporting events with BT Sport’s best ever 360° service.

BT Sport was the first in the world to offer live sports in a 360° view and the enhanced Matchday Experience provides picture quality never seen before.

A new “pinch and zoom” functionality enables fans to home in on their desired areas of interest to recreate the feeling of being at the ground. 360° offers viewers the chance to select different camera angles and viewpoints not normally seen in TV broadcasts.

It also provides a completely different viewing experience from the usual fixed-camera positions, allowing viewers to look around in all directions.

Stadium Experience

Go behind the scenes at some of the most iconic sporting venues in the country.

Using an Augmented Reality doorway in the BT Sport app, subscribers are transported from their sofas to the heart of the gameday experience.

Depending on the club and stadium, this view include access to rarely-seen areas such like dressing rooms, dugouts, trophy rooms and tunnel areas.

Manager Mode

Debuting for the start of the 2021/22 Premier League season, the BT Sport App provides an enhanced version of its popular Manager Mode feature.

The upgraded Manager Mode feature includes an updated mini map showing both teams’ real-time formations plus key data such as the location of key touches in the opponent’s half and time spent in the opposition's half.

Individual speed data is visible for key players involved in a phase of play, providing viewers with data-led insight as the game progresses.

Hype Mode

Our new Hype Mode feature provides a youthful and entertaining broadcast experience never before seen in the UK.

Geared to children and adults alike, Hype Mode features fun, action-themed on-screen descriptions for key plays, shot tracers lined with graphics such as blazes of fire, player runs augmented with smoke trails, and larger-than-life on-pitch graphics to denote shot speeds.

“Hype Mode is a first of its kind innovation in the UK around live football broadcast that will provide a new viewing experience for children and families, while maintaining the integrity of the competitions we cover," said Hindhaugh.

Timeline Mode arrives on TV

In addition, BT Sport customers can now enjoy a new ‘timeline’ feature on consoles, smart TVs and other large screen platforms, which gives viewers a new way to watch live sport on TV*.

The new features allow customers watching on TV via the App to access an interactive timeline for each match to keep abreast of key moments and incidents. The feature allows them to re-watch key moments and move seamlessly back to the live action.  The new timeline feature is available in up to 4K HDR quality.

The timeline features will be available around events such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. While viewers have been able to use a timeline on mobiles and tablets for several seasons as part of the App’s enhanced player, this is the first time that they will be able to enjoy an improved viewing experience on large screens.

*The timeline feature will launch on Xbox and in due course but will not be available on Samsung 2015/16 Smart TVs, Sky TV, BT TV and Virgin Media TV.

The following existing BT Sport customers do not have access to the App on large screen devices: EE customers with only small screen app access (mobile/tablet); BT Business customers; customers who only take BT Mobile; Virgin Media BT Sport customers; those who subscribe to BT Sport directly from Sky.
