Sep 23It’s hard to believe another exhilarating year of sports has flown by already as 2021 draws to a close on BT Sport.
We’ve brought you some of the best live action from across the sporting calendar – and we’re set to do it all over again in 2022 with another fantastic slate of sports programming to bring you over the next 12 months.

Football
You needn’t look elsewhere for your football fix in 2022 as we bring you exclusive coverage of the Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League and a load more games from the Premier League to look forward to.
The Champions League will resume in February 2022 with all four English teams in with a shout of reaching Saint Petersburg in Russia for the showpiece finale.
Defending champions Chelsea will resume their defence of the trophy against Lille, while fellow favourites Man City take on Sporting Lisbon in their Round of 16 tie.
Meanwhile, six-time European cup winners Liverpool take on Italian giants Inter Milan and Ralf Rangnick’s Man United take on La Liga champions Atletico Madrid when the tournament resumes in mid-February.
History will be made in the Europa League with the first ever knockout round play-offs as this season’s third-placed Champions League sides face off against the second-placed sides from the Europa League group stages.
With West Ham finishing group winners, their passage through to the Round of 16 has been assured but Rangers face a difficult tie against Bundesliga big boys Borussia Dortmund before they can join the Hammers.
And the inaugural Europa Conference League also returns in February with British representation from Leicester City and Celtic.
Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes take on Danish side Randers over two legs to qualify for the Round of 16 while Celtic face a trip to the Arctic Circle as they meet Norwegian league winners Bodo/Glimt.
Back on home soil, we’ll have plenty more action from the Premier League to bring you exclusively live too, including a full midweek round of games in early February.
The Premier League year kicks off with a bang on New Years’ Day too with a scintillating showdown between in-form Arsenal and defending champions Manchester City.
Two weeks later, we’ll have another title showdown too as Pep Guardiola’s side host rivals Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
On top of that, there’s more European football coming your way as our exclusive coverage of Serie A and Ligue 1 continues throughout the year.

Rugby Union
BT Sport continues to be the home of domestic and European rugby in 2022 with a feast of action promised for the year ahead.
After a covid-hit Christmas period, the European Rugby Champions Cup will return with plenty going on as eight Premiership sides hope to keep their dreams of reaching the final in Marseille alive.
However, all eyes will be on the defending champions Toulouse in the New Year.
The Top 14 giants won an all-French affair against La Rochelle at Twickenham last season to win a record-breaking fifth European Cup and make them the most successful club in the competition's history.
Ronan O'Gara's La Rochelle will also be hoping to be in the reckoning as they look to go one better after falling at the final hurdle.
Our very own Exeter Chiefs will hope they can also bounce back to be competitive in the tournament after losing both Premiership and Champions Cup crowns in the same year.
Domestically, it looks set to be another sizzling conclusion to the Gallagher Premiership campaign with any number of sides in the mix to reach the season-ending play-offs.
Defending champions Harlequins remain in the hunt for the top spots but it is the form of Leicester Tigers that has been the story of the season so far.
Steve Borthwick’s side look to have put a miserable few years behind them with a triumphant return to form as they sit top of the tree, eyeing their chance to lift the Premiership trophy for the first time since 2013.

Cricket
The men’s Ashes tour may not be panning out how many of us had hoped – but fear not!
The Women’s Ashes tour kicks off in late January with Heather Knight’s Lionesses vowing to “fight fire with fire” on their own quest to reclaim the urn from Aussie rule.
Consisting of one test, three T20s and three ODIs, the multi-format series promises to be an intriguing contest between two of the best sides on the planet, featuring some of the biggest names in women’s cricket.
"The Aussies are at their best when they're on top of you and trying to exploit weakness so we've got to make sure we're trying to punch first and be aggressive towards them and try and win those key battles very early because when they get on top, they're quite hard to flip around,” Captain Knight said earlier this month.
Also beginning in late January, we’ll have further coverage of the England men’s side as they head for sunnier shores on their tour of the Caribbean to face the West Indies across both white and red ball formats.
And our broadcast partnership with Cricket Australia continues too as we bring you coverage of New Zealand and Sri Lanka’s white ball tours Down Under.

UFC
One look at the current reigning champions of the UFC should tell you all you need to know about what was a thrilling, surprising year of combat inside the Octagon.
From Julianna Pena’s all-time upset victory against Amanda Nunes in December to Charles Oliveira’s stunning rise to lightweight supremacy throughout 2021, we saw it all inside the cage last year – and we’re ready to do it all over again in 2022.
The schedule is already taking shape for the first quarter of the year and there are some cracking matchups taking place across January and February.
A featherweight firecracker kicks the year off in style as perennial contender Calvin Kattar takes on rising star Giga Chikadze on January 15.
A week later, the heavyweights take centre stage in a mammoth unification clash between undisputed king Francis Ngannou and interim champ Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.
February’s numbered event looks like a classic too as middleweight ruler Israel Adesanya resumes rivalries with Robert Whittaker in a rematch of their record-breaking UFC 243 showdown in Melbourne, Australia.
We’ll bring you more from Adam Catterall, Nick Peet and ‘The Count’, Michael Bisping, too as Fight Week returns for every numbered card throughout the year.
There will be even more original programming throughout 2022 with Dan Hardy’s Breakdown Show helping build towards some of the biggest events in the MMA calendar.
Boxing
BT Sport’s partnership with Frank Warren’s Queensberry boxing continues throughout 2022 showcasing Britain’s best stable of professional fighters in top tier contests with guaranteed entertainment.
The year gets off to a flyer with coverage of popular light-heavyweight Callum Johnson’s world title challenge against Joe Smith Jr in New York on January 15.
Johnson, a lion-hearted knockout artist, will be making his second attempt at world title honours after giving unbeaten IBF king Artur Beterbiev the biggest scare of his career in 2018.
Watching on with intrigue will be Hackney man Anthony Yarde who roared back into form with a dominant knockout victory over Lyndon Arthur at the tail end of 2021.
The fight was billed as an unofficial eliminator for the winner of Smith vs Johnson but the manner of Yarde’s win over Arthur appears to have made ‘The Beast’ the undeniable favourite for the next crack at the WBO strap.
Tyson Fury will be hoping to return to BT Sport screens in March with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Andy Ruiz Jr and Joseph Parker rumoured to be in consideration for a crack at the Gypsy King.
Rising heavyweight star Daniel Dubois resumes his quest for world title honours too, hoping to demonstrate his development since joining up with revered cornerman Shane McGuigan.
And Joe Joyce will be back with another must-see showdown against a top ranked heavyweight contender in order to sure up his status as next in line for a shot at the WBO title.
With all that, plus the likes of Sunny Edwards, Zach Parker and Hamzah Sheeraz, coming to BT Sport in 2022, boxing fans will be in for a treat for the next 12 months!
Motorsport
Petrolheads assemble! We’ve got another cracking year of motorsports coming your way in 2022 including action from the MotoGP circuit, the World Rally Championship, Extreme E and a host of other racing events.
It was a historic year in MotoGP as Fabio Quartararo became the first ever French rider to secure the championship - but the sport also waved goodbye to one of its biggest stars as the curtain finally came down on Valentino Rossi’s incredible career.
The Doctor was recently inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame and leaves an indelible mark on the sport – but with a talented crop of youngsters from across Europe now emerging in his wake, the future of MotoGP has never looked as bright!
British rally fans can continue to follow the fortunes of their heroes in the all-action WRC on next year, extending our partnership with the sport that began in 2014.
Since then, we have tracked the rise of young British drivers like Elfyn Evans and Gus Greensmith to become established stars of the line-up.
Ahead of another jam-packed season, we’ll bring you live coverage of every stage from round as the WRC launches an exciting new era of hybrid-powered cars from Evans’ Toyota Gazoo Racing squad to Greensmith’s M-Sport Ford team.
