What's the story?
Fight fans will need no reminder that Tyson Fury’s press conferences are appointment viewing – and ahead of the biggest event of his career, you won’t want to miss whatever the Gypsy King has in store this time around.
The 33-year-old will fight on English soil for the first time in almost four years when he makes the second defence of his WBC crown on Saturday night.
Since beating Francesco Pianeta on points at Windsor Park in 2018, Fury has gone on to fight five times consecutively on the other side of the pond, becoming a global star and arguably the face of the heavyweight division in the process.
But with the coveted green-and-gold belt now under his stewardship, the beloved Wythenshawe heavyweight will enjoy a record-breaking homecoming in a mouth-watering domestic clash on St George’s Day.
For Whyte, the occasion also marks the end of a frustrating journey in his career having spent almost four years frozen out of the heavyweight title picture by some of the less desirable political quirks of the sport.
Now ready to make up for lost time as he challenges for a full world title for the first time, the 34-year-old believes he will upset the odds to become the first man ever to beat Fury.
Despite expectation that he would take part in Tuesday’s open workouts, Whyte opted against greeting the crowds at Wembley Boxpark yesterday meaning the first glance of the Brixton banger will come at Wednesday’s press conference.
It’s been a strange build-up to this titanic heavyweight clash with Whyte staying silent and refusing the take part in any of the promotion until permitting BT Sport’s Steve Bunce to visit him at the end of his Portugal training camp last week.
But if Whyte’s intention had been to detract from interest around the fight, it only appears to have had the opposite effect with the boxing world now desperate to hear from the 28-2 fighter when he takes to the mic on Wednesday afternoon.
