Moving home

Take us with you and get all your BT services up and running for the day you unpack. This process can take two weeks, but it’s often much faster.

Moving couldn't be simpler

Tell us about your move

Use your BT login details to start your home move journey. Let us know your new address and choose a moving date.

If you can try to give us two weeks' notice, that's normally plenty of time to get you set up. We can support shorter notice periods in most cases.

Review your speed and place your order

You'll be able to check what speeds are available in your new area and decide what's best for you.

If you choose to keep your existing package, you will need to take your equipment with you to your new home. You can continue on the same contract with the same account. Upgrading your package starts a new contract.

Move into your new home with ease

Plug in your hub as soon as you get to your new place. If you need a new hub, it will arrive a day before your planned activation date.

Follow the enclosed instructions or watch our easy to follow setup guides to help you install your hub. Visit our help and support to solve specific issues.

With a backup connection, if you need it

If we know your BT services will be delayed by more than two days, we’ll offer you a BT or EE 4G Mini Hub powered by the EE network. And we’ll give you unlimited mobile data to get you online as quickly as possible.

All at no extra cost to you.

Frequently asked questions

We generally don't charge any fees when you’re moving home. However, there are a few cases where there may be a charge:

  • If you have a landline only package and there is no BT line in your new home, there's a connection fee of £70 to get your new line installed and set up
  • If you have a copper broadband package and there is no BT line in your new home, there's a connection fee of £30 to get your new line installed and set up

However, if you take out a new broadband contract with us during the home move process, you won’t be charged any connection fees.

We'll always tell you about any charges as part of your home move and get your agreement before we start any work.

You can change your billing address for your mobile plan with us online.

If you want telephone service at your new address, a new 12-month contract term will always apply for the telephone line. Any un-used portion of Line Rental Saver that you paid at your old address, and any remaining contract term on a telephone calling plan, will both carry over to your new address.

If you are ordering a BT Phone package, you may have to pay a connection charge but we'll let you know when you order. There is usually a £50 fee for activating an existing line that is provided by BT or another provider, and a £130 fee for installing a new line.

If you'll be living in the same telephone exchange area (e.g. Lincoln 01522) it might be possible for you to keep your current phone number. We'll let you know when you start your home move. If you're moving to a new area, you'll probably need a new phone number.

If you need a new number, we can arrange for your current number to be re-directed to your new property or to your mobile phone. Just add Caller Redirect to your calling features.

Important information

The legal stuff

Δ If you sign up to a new contract or renew your contract for a Landline (including call charges, features, add-ons and plans), BT Mobile (including plans, monthly add-ons, call, text, and data charges), BT Broadband, BT TV or BT Sport (including TV and Sport add-ons) the monthly price will increase each year from March 2022. That increase is based on the Consumer Price Index Rate of inflation which is published in January each year plus 3.9%.
