How to report abuse and phishing

When you report abuse or phishing, you're helping us to protect other users. 

We want all our customers to have a positive experience online, but unfortunately, people sometimes misuse our network. This could be anything from sending viruses to posting illegal material.

What BT can investigate

  • IP abuse originating from our network
  • Abuse of our BT email service
  • Digital account takeover
  • Phishing
  • Scam calls 
  • Malware
  • Vulnerability scanning
  • Distributed denial of service attacks against your BT products (DDoS)
  • Illegal material (including copyright infringement)
  • Inappropriate content, chat or behaviour with or towards a child online


What BT can't investigate

Unfortunately, we can't stop abuse that doesn't come from our network. Please report the abuse directly to the offender's Internet Service Provider (ISP). You can find out who the Internet Service Provider (ISP) is by looking up any IP address in the RIPE Database at


Reporting abuse and phishing to BT

  • Report your issue to We investigate and act quickly on any abuse reported to us. Whilst we may not be able to respond individually, we do act upon every email received.

Reporting abuse and phishing externally

  • We have partnered with the National Cyber Security Centre to bring the latest advice and guidance to our customers – for tips on how to protect yourself, visit their website at  

  • If you have clicked on a link, opened an attachment or entered any personal details, we recommend that you run an anti-virus scan before changing your passwords for services such as online banking and your BT ID and BT Email.
