What we know about The Tail of the Curious Mouse starring Dawn French
Dawn French will star as Beatrix Potter in the one-off drama based on the true story of her meeting with another iconic children's writer.
Dawn French will star as beloved children’s author Beatrix Potter is a new one-off drama this Christmas.
The Tail of the Curious Mouse is inspired by the true story of a meeting between two of the world’s most popular children’s writers.
Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter was in her eighties when she met six-year-old Roald Dahl, who would go on to write much-loved stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach.
The one-off hour-long film has been written by Abigail Wilson, whose credits include Jam and Jerusalem, which French also appeared in, as well as Trollied and Stella.
What is it about?
Not much information has been released about the project so far, but the press release says the film is based on a true story.
According to Wales Online, the pair met when the young Roald Dahl persuaded his mother to take him to meet his literary idol at her home in the Lake District.
Dahl’s friend, Brough Girling, told the website: “He saw Beatrix Potter, this old woman in her garden. And she said to him, ‘What do you want?’
“He said, ‘I’ve come to meet Beatrix Potter’ and she said ‘Well, you’ve seen her. Now buzz off!’"
Presumably there will be a little more to the story when it hits our screens.
Who is in it?
Vicar of Dibley star Dawn French is the only cast member to have been announced so far.
When will it be on?
The Tail of the Curious Mouse is due to air this Christmas.
