Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux tackle Watergate in White House Plumbers
May 3 | 4 min readDescribed as “a heartfelt love letter to Hollywood of the late 1960s”, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood is the blockbuster ninth film from Quentin Tarantino that's made $371 million worldwide.
Starring Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, the film follows a faded television actor and his stunt double who strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles.
Here, we reveal fun trivia, hidden Easter eggs and surprising facts about Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, ahead of its release on the NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass.
1. Margot Robbie wears Sharon Tate's actual jewellery in the film
The Aussie actress had some special accessories to help her channel Tate on set. According to Town and Country Mag, Robbie got to know Tate's sister Debra during filming, who gave her some of Tate's jewellery to wear for the part.
2. It's the first feature film to star both Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt...
The acting legends have appeared in a short film together, 2015’s The Audition, but this is the first time they’ve appeared in a full-length feature film. Apparently they got along so well during the production that they would love to team up again on another film.
3. ... but Margot Robbie has acted alongside them both!
In a somewhat Wall Street-inspired six degrees of separation, Robbie starred alongside DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and with Pitt in The Big Short (2015).
4. It’s not the first time Damon Herriman has played Charles Manson
Australian actor Damon Herriman shows up briefly in the film as Charles Manson - according to Rolling Stone, he "nods, he smiles, he waves, he ambles" - but he has also played the US criminal in something else. You might recognise Herriman from season 2 of Mindhunter, where he plays Manson as he faces off against the show's two FBI profilers.
5. Tarantino wrote the role of movie producer Marvin Schwarzs specifically for Al Pacino
Talking about his casting of The Godfather actor, below, Tarantino told EW: “We’ve kind of become friends in the last two years. So, we’ve really got to know each other a little bit. I’ve had him come over to my house, and read some material for a play I was writing, and so he helped me out on that, it was really cool. So, I wrote the role for him.”
6. Keep your eyes peeled for a Tarantino casting Easter egg
On the fictional TV series Bounty Law, we see Michael Madsen play Sheriff Hackett. Madsen is a mainstay of Quentin Tarantino movies after playing Mr Blonde in Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Budd in Kill Bill (2003, ’04).
7. Speaking of Madsen, watch out for his car...
The yellow Cadillac in this movie has more screen time than he Madsen - and it actually belongs to him. The Cadillac also appeared in Reservoir Dogs (1992), driven by Madsen himself.
