Hollywood big hitters join forces in hilarious Netflix film about the end of the World
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence lead a stellar cast including Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep in this black comedy about a comet that's set to destroy Earth.
Hollywood royalty comes to Netflix, with a new all-star comedy from Academy Award-winning director Adam McKay (Vice, Anchorman, Step Brothers).
The film focuses on a super-serious subject – impending doom as a comet comes hurtling towards Earth. But as you’d expect from the man behind films such as Anchorman and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Don’t Look Up is full of laughs and subversive humour as it pokes fun at some of the absurd elements of the world we live in, such as our obsession with social media.
What’s Don’t Look Up about?
Astronomy grad student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an unbelievable discovery – a comet is on a direct collision course with Earth. And even though it’s likely to strike within six months, nobody seems to care – even the US President (Meryl Streep) and her subservient son Jason (Jonah Hill).
So, with the help of Dr Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall hit the airwaves to try and get the message out to a world that seems too busy and disinterested to just look up.
Who’s in Don’t Look Up?
Jennifer Lawrence plays grad student Kate Dibiasky, who alongside her professor, Dr Randell Mindy, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, discover an Earth-bound comet.
Lawrence says, “It’s maybe the funniest script I’ve ever read,” further commenting, “It was so fun to get pitched one hilarious line after another.”
Meryl Streep plays US President Janie Orlean, while her supportive son Jason is played by comedy superstar Jonah Hill.
Rob Morgan plays Dr Clayton ‘Teddy’ Oglethorpe, who’s brought on board to help Kate and Randall get the message of impending doom out to the world.
The all-star cast also includes Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry, who play TV hosts on the upbeat breakfast show, The Daily Rip.
Plus, there’s appearances from Ron Perlman, Mark Rylance, Timothée Chalamet and Melanie Lynskey as well as Kid Cudi and Ariana Grande, above.
