Vicky McClure, the star of Line of Duty and Trigger Point, returns to ITV this autumn for four-part thriller Without Sin.

A dark psychological drama filmed in McClure’s home city Nottingham, the series has been described as “addictive viewing”.

Without Sin will premiere on ITV’s new free streaming service ITVX in 2022, before coming to ITV at a later date.

Without Sin is described as a “psychological thriller” and will star McClure as Stella Tomlinson, whose 14-year-old daughter Maisy is found murdered at the family home with a bloodied and hooded figure, Charles Stone (Johnny Harris), standing over her.

The drama will pick up three years on from her daughter’s death as Stella attempts to deal with her guilt and remorse. In an attempt to move on, Stella listens to a taped recording of Charles and returns to her roots in Millfields estate to be near the people she trusts the most.

Stella decides to go one step further and meet Charles in prison. The preview for the series teases “nothing could prepare her for what Charles has to say next…”.

ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill said “Without Sin is a brilliantly compelling story while carefully dealing with a mother’s grief at the loss of her daughter.

“Vicky and Johnny as Stella and Charles will be addictive viewing.”

The series reunites This Is England co-stars Vicky McClure and Johnny Harris (The Salisbury Poisonings, Medici, Troy: Fall of a City) for the first time since 2010’s This Is England 86.

Nottingham-born writer Frances Poletti created the series with McClure and Harris in mind for the lead roles.

Where was Without Sin filmed?

Written in Nottingham, starring Nottingham-born cast, Without Sin had to also be filmed in Nottingham.

Talking to ITV Central, McClure said: “I just really hope that the audience will enjoy, if they're not from Nottingham - to see the city in all its glory.

"And then for those that are locals, it's a big show, it's a great show and it's set here and it's for the city.”

Local landmarks used in the series include Forest Fields, Notts County Football Club and Victoria Centre Market.
