ITV have been bringing back some of their finest crime dramas during lockdown and June will see the return of the one Britain's most popular murder mysteries, Broadchurch.

Starring Olivia Colman, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Arthur Darvill and Pauline Quirke, the first series is being repeated from Monday, June 8th at 9pm.

Alongside the 'Who killed Danny' central mystery, the first series is best remembered for its beautiful shots of the Dorset coast which generated a massive boom in tourism for the region.

Where is Broadchurch set and filmed?

The popular ITV crime drama was primarily filmed in the Jurassic Coast harbour village of West Bay, Dorset. While the backdrop of West Bay – also known as Bridport Harbour - is used due to its spectacular cliffs and scenery. The street scenes in Broadchurch are filmed in Clevedon, Bristol. Other locations such as Charmouth and Portishead were used across all three series.

Where is the real Axehampton House?

The crime scene in series 3 - the large residence and land used for the Atwood's party - is Bridehead House.

Located in the village of Little Bredy, west Dorset, the Grade II listed property is privately owned and had 16 hectares of grounds within an estate of 132 hectares.

The house has gardens, its own lake and the waterfall shown in the episode is connected to the River Bride.

Sadly, the manor is not currently open to the public.

Is the town of Broadchurch a real place?

No. The show’s name was taken from a combination of Broadoak and Whitchurch Canonicorum, which are both villages of West Dorset. Writer Chris Chibnall lives on the Jurassic Coast.

How can I get to West Bay?

If driving from London, take the M3 southbound and after Junction 13 take the M27 westbound. The M27 then becomes the A31. Turn onto the A35 (signposted Dorchester). Continue on the A35 until you arrive at Bridport. Take the B3157 to West Bay.

From the North and Midlands, take the M5 south to Junction 25 and follow the A358 to Axminster before taking the B3261 and A35 to Bothenhampton and the B3157 to West Bay.

By train from Waterloo to Dorchester South, regular bus service to Bridport and on to West Bay.

The nearest regional airports are Exeter and Dorchester.

West Bay sits at the western end of Chesil Beach. Bridport – which itself featured as the fictional town of Port Bredy in the Wessex novels of Thomas Hardy - is less than two miles away while Lyme Regis, the ‘capital’ of the 100-mile Jurassic Coast, is just a 20-minute drive away.

Slightly further afield are the golden sands and tourist attractions of Weymouth, 30 minutes to the east, and Sidmouth, a pretty Victorian resort with the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on its doorstep, is 50 minutes to the west.
