Here’s everything we know so far about the plot, cast, release date, and trailer.
What is The Confessions of Frannie Langton plot?
Author Sara Collins won the Costa first novel award in 2019 for her book of the same name and now she has adapted it for TV.
Set in Georgian London, it follows Frannie Langton from her lifelong slavery in the Jamaican plantations to Britain, where she has been given as a gift to George Benham and his wife Marguerite by her former owner John Langton.
Frannie begins work as a maid for the household and develops a deep love for the beautiful Marguerite - but when one morning she wakes up in bed beside her murdered mistress whose husband has also been killed, Frannie is the prime suspect.
Deep into a laudanum addiction, Frannie has no recollection of the night in question but feels she cannot have killed the woman she was so fond of. From her prison cell, she sets about trying to piece together what happened, racing to solve the mystery before she is sentenced to be hanged for the crime.
Exploring themes of race, class and oppression, the drama weaves a mystery that will draw in viewers before revealing its shocking truth.
