There’s serious A-list talent heading to your screen this May as Mark Ruffalo takes on a dual role of identical twins in the HBO limited series, I Know This Much is True.

Based on the bestselling novel by Wally Lamb, I Know This Much is True is adapted and directed by A Place Beyond the Pines’ Derek Cianfrance. 

It stars the Avengers: Endgame actor as both Dominick Birdsey and his identical twin, paranoid schizophrenic Thomas.

I Know This Much is True premieres on HBO in the United States on Sunday, May 10.

You’ll be able to watch it in the UK from Monday, May 11 on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

The limited series consists of six episodes.

What is I Know This Much is True about?

The limited series is based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Wally Lamb.

Mark Ruffalo stars in a double role as Dominick Birdsey and his twin brother, Thomas, in a family saga filled with betrayal, sacrifice and forgiveness.

The series follows Dominick and Thomas at different stages in their lives, beginning in their present as both brothers approach middle age. 

Thomas is a paranoid schizophrenic, and it falls to Dominick to take care of him, even as their mother’s health fails and Thomas’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and dangerous.

Who’s in the cast of I Know This Much is True?

Aside from Oscar-nominee Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, Avengers Assemble, Dark Waters) in the lead roles, the series boasts an A-list cast.

The series also stars Oscar-winner Melissa Leo as Dominick and Thomas’s mother, as well as Rosie O’Donnell, Archie Panjabi, Juliette Lewis, Kathryn Hahn and Imogen Poots.
