The best family films to watch in the BT TV Player
May 30 | 2 min readOne of the breakout stars in Amazon Prime Video’s smash hit superhero satire The Boys, Erin Moriarty looks destined for big things.
Playing the role of Annie January aka superhero Starlight, Moriarty won plaudits for her impressive performance as the naïve young Christian who discovers that that her dream job with Vought and The Seven is nothing like she expected.
Her #MeToo storyline with Chace Crawford’s The Deep and blossoming relationship with Jack Quaid’s Hughie mean that she became one of the most popular characters in the bloody and brilliant drama series.
But where else might you you seen Erin Moriarty before? And what are her best movies and TV shows to watch next?
Check out seven of her best below…
Starlight/Annie in The Boys

Moriarty has revealed that she had concerns about the #MeToo storyline for Starlight in The Boys season 1.
“Initially, I think viscerally, I winced and cringed,” she confessed. “But then when I kept reading it and saw where it was going and saw that it was sending Starlight on an interesting but empowering trajectory. I got really into it.”
Thank goodness that’s the case because Moriarty’s performance was a highlight of series 1 as she went on one of the biggest character journeys.
She transformed from jolly, superhero fan-girl to a fully submerged part of the dark and sinister world of Vought.
She returns in season two with an even bigger role to play as she finds herself stuck between her relationship with Hughie and the dangerous power of The Seven.
Audrey in HBO’s True Detective
The critically acclaimed first season of HBO’s dark mystery series starred Moriarty as Audrey, the daughter of Woody Harrelson’s Detective Marty Hart.
Moriarty won critical acclaim for her performance in a series that also featured Matthew McConaughey, and Michelle Monaghan.
Telling the story of horrific unsolved crimes through the eyes of two homicide detectives (McConaughey and Harrelson), the drama series captured the imagination of millions with its central mystery of the ‘Yellow King’.
Chelsea in The Watch
An early role for Moriarty came in this 2012 all-star comedy about a group of male neighbours who form a suburban neighbourhood watch group.
The film takes a big twist when the four men discover an alien plot threatening the world, thrusting them into action.
Starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade, Moriarty appears as the daughter of Vaughn’s over-protective father and construction worker Bob.
Kelly in Kings of Summer
This independent coming-of-age comedy from 2013 has an impressive cast include Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Megan Mullally.
Following the story of three teenage friends, Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso), and Biaggio (Moisés Arias), who decide to leave their dysfunctional families and live an isolated life in the woods, Moriarty stars as love interest Kelly.
Lydia in Blood Father
Moriarty plays the estranged daughter of an ex-convict, who finds herself reunited and on the run with her dad when she gets on the wrong side of her drug-dealing boyfriend (Diego Luna).
Starring alongside Mel Gibson and William H Macy, Moriarty won praise from critics for her performance as the young woman who always meets the wrong guys and makes the wrong decisions.
Hope Shlottman in Jessica Jones
The Boys wasn’t Moriarty’s first dabble in the world of superheroes, previously starring in Netflix’s Marvel series as the all-American New York University student Hope.
Hope becomes a client at Jessica’s Alias Investigations and is involved in a long-running dark storyline, involving series villain Kilgrave (David Tennant). Based on a graphic novel intended for adults, this is not a superhero story for the kids.
Katy Connors in Driven
Moriarty appears alongside Lee Pace, Judy Greer, Jason Sudeikis and Corey Stoll in this true crime thriller about drug-runner and FBI informant Jim Hoffman and automobile entrepreneur John DeLorean.
In the stranger-than-fiction case, Moriarty plays the hard-to-handle Katy Connors, the girlfriend of big-time drug dealer Morgan, played by The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz.
The Boys season 2, starring Erin Moriarty, starts on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, September 4.
