Fans of new BBC crime drama Beyond Paradise can look forward to a festive visit to Shipton Abbott this year as the BBC has confirmed the show’s first Christmas Special.

The Death in Paradise spinoff series has been massive ratings hit on Friday nights on BBC One with over eight million viewers either tuning in for the show’s premiere or catching up on iPlayer.

Therefore, it’s hardly a surprise that the BBC have ordered a Christmas special, where we’ll get to see how DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) spend their first winter together in Devon.

What's more, the detective drama will also be returning for a second series in 2024.

What happened at the end of Beyond Paradise series 1?

At the end of Beyond Paradise series 1, fans were treated to a surprise crossover with Death in Paradise as Humphrey returned to his old stomping ground in Saint Marie.

After relationship troubles with Martha which stemmed from their struggles with IVF and Martha’s former flame Archie (Jamie Bamber) resurfacing, Humphrey took a trip back to the Caribbean to clear his mind.

The trip reunited Humphrey with his old boss Selwyn (Don Warrington) and introduced him to Death in Paradise’s new detective, DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little).

He was also shocked to discover Martha has followed him to Saint Marie and the pair put aside their troubles to restart their lives together.

We saw Humphrey on the phone to Shipton Abbott police at the end of the episode, promising that he would be returning to the team.
