UFC Fight Island: Location, date, venue and how to watch every card on BT Sport
BTSport.com brings you everything you need to know about UFC’s July extravaganza from Fight Island.
The UFC has continued to put on shows during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Florida and Las Vegas, but the MMA promotion is preparing to stage fight cards unlike any we’ve ever seen before in July.
Four new stacked fight cards have been announced complete with international athletes who couldn’t come into the United States due to travel restrictions – and you can watch all of them exclusively live on BT Sport.
Here’s all the key information about Fight Island.
What is UFC Fight Island?
The UFC has aggressively sought to stage fight cards during the pandemic and has successfully put on a number of events in Jacksonville, Florida and the company’s bespoke training facility in Las Vegas.
However, travel restrictions preventing fighters from other countries from entering the United States meant that the cards were dominated by domestic competitors.
UFC supremo Dana White first announced that he had secured a private island in the week UFC 249 was postponed in April after White was told to ‘stand down’ from hosting the event by his broadcasting partner.
He revealed Fight Island, which will feature bouts involving international fighters, will have everything from an Octagon to training facilities and hotels. “We really are putting an Octagon on the beach,” he even told ESPN.
What events are happening on UFC Fight Island?
Yas Island will play host to UFC 251 on Saturday 11 July with three Fight Nights on Wednesday 15 July, Saturday 18 July and Saturday 25 July.
UFC 251 is headlined by welterweight Kamaru Usman’s defence against Gilbert Burns. All-action featherweights Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige headline the next card alongside a strong co-main event between Frankie Edgar and Pedro Munhoz.
The flyweight championship clash between Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez heads up the third card from Fight Island before England's Darren Till makes his long-awaited return against Robert Whittaker.
What is the UFC 251 fight card?
UFC 251 features Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns, Alexander Volkanovski’s rematch against Max Holloway and Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo for the vacant bantamweight title.
UFC 251 main card:
Welterweight: Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns
Featherweight: Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway
Bantamweight: Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo
