It's been more than two years since Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker locked horns for the first time in front of a record-breaking crowd at UFC 243 in October 2019.

Adesanya announced himself to the world with a stunning knockout of the former middleweight champion, snatching the crown in the second round after a pulsating performance that confirmed Adesanya's place among the pound-for-pound elite.

Since then, the 32-year-old Nigerian New Zealander has made three defences of the 185lb strap, as well as challenging for the 205lb belt, becoming one of the transcendant faces of the UFC.

Whittaker, meanwhile, has quietly gone about restoring his reputation as the most dangerous contender in the division, seeing off a killer's row of contemporaries by defeating Darren Till, Jarred Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum in impressive style.
