Zellhuber submits Giagos with anaconda choke!
Sep 19UFC 254 saw Khabib Nurmagomedov make his first appearance inside the Octagon for more than a year as he took on Justin Gaethje for the undisputed UFC lightweight crown on Fight Island.
Unbeaten in 28 fights in his professional MMA career, Khabib was looking to bolster his pound-for-pound credentials with a win over the resurgent Gaethje, who secured the interim 155lb crown after defeating Tony Ferguson earlier this year.
Nicknamed 'The Highlight', all-action superstar Gaethje pocketed a performance bonus on each of his seven UFC assignments before tonight and, coming into the biggest fight of his career, was fancied by some to cause an upset that would surely bag an eighth.
Teeing up the main event, fight fans watched Robert Whittaker's Fight Island return as he took on Jared Cannonier in a potential middleweight title eliminator.
Cannonier, the self-styled 'Killa Gorilla', was promised a shot at champion Israel Adesanya next but knew he must impress against a rejuvenated Whittaker, who was himself hoping to book a rematch against the Kiwi king.
On top of that, we had action from the heavyweight division between Russian giant Alexander Volkov and America's Walt Harris, while the long-awaited light-heavyweight rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Ion Cutelaba kicked off the main card in style.
