US Open day two: Thiem and Tsitsipas fall at first hurdle

Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas were high-profile casualties in the first round at the US Open but Rafael Nadal roared through in straight sets against John Millman.

Meanwhile, defending champion Naomi Osaka beat Anna Blinkova in three sets and 15-year-old Cori Gauff also progressed but former champion Sloane Stephens was knocked out.

British number one Kyle Edmund was unable to join Johanna Konta and Dan Evans in round two after crashing out in five sets to Pablo Andujar of Spain.

Konta and Evans are back in action on Wednesday.
