Man Utd vs West Ham match preview

The Premier League weekend concludes at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as Man Utd entertain West Ham.

Both sealed comfortable wins in Europe on Thursday and have improved after poor starts to the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned with a goal against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol to help Utd register their biggest win of the season and extend their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.

It was an impressive display after a difficult week after he was dropped for refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham.

But it was arguably 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho who stole the show on his full debut with a breakout performance that received a standing ovation from the Old Trafford faithful.

The Spain-born Argentina international is becoming difficult to ignore and could feature from the bench on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side picked up four points from their last two league games against Chelsea and Spurs and sit sixth, a point behind Newcastle in fourth.

They take on a West Ham side who maintained their 100% winning record in Europe this season with a 1-0 win over Danish visitors Silkeborg on Thursday.

The Hammers started the season with three successive defeats but are beginning to build momentum after picking up three wins in their last five league matches.

Highly rated Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd played his first competitive game for the club after recovering from an ankle injury. He will further reinforce a defence that has conceded only two goals in their last five games.

David Moyes’ side are 10th and would move into the reckoning for European places with a win. Can they spring a surprise at Old Trafford? Or will Utd have too much?

Man Utd vs West Ham: Form guide

Both clubs are enjoying a good run of form after stuttering starts to the season. Man Utd are unbeaten in seven in all competitions and haven’t lost since defeat to Man City at the start of the month.

West Ham have also recovered well, and they have only been beaten once in their last nine games. Successive victories in league and Europe will give them confidence ahead of the trip to Old Trafford.

He said what?!

Paul Scholes on Erik ten Hag’s handling of Cristiano Ronaldo:

“It’s been dealt with, and the manager has dealt with it really well, answering so many questions about it.

“I think it’s done now, and Cristiano has obviously gone to see him, and they've had a good meeting about it.

“The right thing has happened, he is available to play, he’s trained with them this week and it is out of the way. It is old news and now let them carry on with the game.”

Man Utd vs West Ham: Last time they met

Marcus Rashford scored the winner with virtually the last kick of the game the last time the two clubs met in January.

Ralf Rangnick’s side leapfrogged West Ham in the table after the 1-0 victory in a game of few chances at Old Trafford.

It was a result that took Utd into the top four for the first time in three months, while the Hammers dropped down to fifth.

Man Utd vs West Ham: Players to watch

All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo after his goalscoring return on Thursday along with Brazil winger Antony who was accused of unnecessarily showboating against Sheriff.

Erik ten Hag will also feel justified for including Alejandro Garnacho on Thursday and the 18-year-old will be one to watch if his is selected against West Ham.

For West Ham, Nayef Aguerd could play after featuring in the Europa Conference League, although David Moyes indicated he is not ready for the Premier League.

Summer signing Gianluca Scamacca will also be looking to continue his impressive run of form since his switch from Sassuolo.
