The first Merseyside derby of the season headlines our Premier League picks for October - with Chelsea and Man City also in action.

The latest instalment in one of the English football's most iconic rivalries is one of seven games to be shown exclusively live on BT Sport this month.

With coverage starting from 11.30am on Saturday 17 October, the Goodison Park clash will give a born-again Everton side an early opportunity to test themselves against reigning champions Liverpool

Before that, Chelsea and Crystal Palace kick off October's top-flight action with a London derby on Saturday 3 October.

Live coverage from Stamford Bridge begins at 11.30am with Frank Lampard's free-spending Blues keen to prove their title credentials.

Having acquired highly-rated German duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in a £200m summer spending spree, the pressure's on Lampard to improve on last season's fourth-placed finish.

Later that day our attention turns from the capital to Merseyside as unbeaten Everton go toe-to-toe with Brighton in the 3pm kick off.

Bolstered by the arrival of midfield trio Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan - who looks set to miss out through injury - and James Rodriguez, the Toffees have made a perfect start in the league and there is fresh optimism around Goodison that Everton can mount a serious challenge for Europe.

Our October coverage continues on Sunday 4 October with a double bill of top-flight action to choose from as high-flying Leicester play host to West Ham at the same time as new boys West Brom go toe-to-toe with Southampton at St Mary's.

13 days later the Premier League returns from the international break with a bang as Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp lock horns in one of the most highly-anticipated Merseyside derbies in recent memory.

The blue half of Liverpool will not have enjoyed a victory over their bitter rivals for 10 years to the day when the pair meet on Saturday 17 October - Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta scoring the goals in a 2-0 win back in 2010.

But there is new hope that Ancelotti's high-flying Toffees could be the team to end that miserable run when they come up against the champions.

A week later we're at the London Stadium to see if West Ham can upset the odds and put an early dent in Man City's title challenge.

The history books offer scant comfort for the Hammers, with City having won the last eight Premier League meetings between the two sides.

Pep Guardiola's side are again in action in front of the BT Sport cameras a week later, as they make the short trip to Yorkshire and Bramall Lane where Sheffield United await.

The Blades were the Premier League's surprise package last season but three straight defeats to open the campaign are an early warning sign that they can't afford any complacency if they are to retain their top-fight status for a third term.
