UCL Magazine - Episode 4
Sep 29The Champions League is back!
All the matches in the 2022/23 competition, from the group stage to the final, will be exclusively live on BT Sport.
Liverpool are looking to bounce back from a gut-wrenching defeat to Real Madrid at the Stade de France and kick off their campaign with a daunting trip to Napoli.
The Reds started the season well below par as they were held by Fulham and Crystal Palace before losing to a low-on-confidence Manchester United.
However, the team illustrated just how potent an attacking force they can be when they annihilated Bournemouth 9-0 in a match that saw Harvey Elliott and Trent Alexander-Arnold net wonderstrikes as Scott Parker was sacked just three days later.
Meanwhile, Napoli lost club legends Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens over the summer, but are currently top of Serie A with 11 points from a possible 15.
The teams have played each other four times in recent years in the group stage, with Napoli winning both their contests at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Can they make it three?

Napoli vs Liverpool preview
It was this fixture in the 2018/19 season at Anfield in which Alisson pulled off a superb reflex save to deny Arkadiusz Milik at the death, preserving Liverpool's 1-0 lead in the final game of the group stage, which meant they progressed at the Napoli's expense by virtue of goals scored.
The Reds of course went on to win the competition that campaign and came tantalisingly close to getting their hands on the trophy again in May this year, but were defeated by Real Madrid, who had Thibaut Courtois to thank for an extraordinary goalkeeping performance.
Jurgen Klopp's men have looked a bit off the pace this term and failed to score in the Premier League for the first time in nine months on Saturday during their goalless Merseyside derby draw.
However, former Fulham youngsters Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott have breathed new life into the side in recent weeks, while Darwin Nunez showed flashes of his brilliant best at Goodison Park on his return from a three-game red-card ban.
Napoli meanwhile sit top of Serie A after a major summer rebuilding job that saw Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, David Ospina and Fabian Ruiz all depart.
The average age of the squad has been brought right down, the new centre-back partnership of Leo Ostigard and Kim min-Jae looks solid and Georgia winger Kvicha Kvaratskhelia has four goals in five games since joining from Rubin Kazan and is a nightmare for defenders with his bottomless box of tricks. Liverpool, you have been warned.
