All about BT Parental Controls
BT Parental Controls help keep your children safe online. Once they’re switched on, all devices connected to your BT Hub have their content filtered to the level you choose.
These filters also apply when you use your BT ID to sign in to UK EE WiFi hotspots.
If your child is using the internet over a mobile network, this won’t protect the device. To manage mobile browsing, contact your mobile network provider.

BT Parental Controls let you:
- set up quickly with no software to install
- protect all devices connected to your home broadband
- choose from Strict, Moderate or Light filter levels
- set Always allow and Always block for specific sites
- set times for filters to be on or off
- set up homework time for extra peace of mind
- apply the same protection when signed in to UK EE WiFi hotspots with your BT ID
Manage your settings
You’ll find BT Parental Controls in My Extras. From there, you can:
- switch controls on or off
- change filter levels
- add allowed or blocked websites
- set times when filters apply
Changes usually take effect within a couple of hours.
Need more help
If something isn’t working as expected, you can:
- check your settings are switched on
- review your filter level and blocked categories
- allow or block specific websites
- check the time settings are correct
If filters feel too strict or a site is blocked
Websites are filtered based on their main purpose, not individual pages. This can sometimes mean a site is blocked even if all of its content isn’t inappropriate.
You can change this at any time:
- Go to BT Parental Controls
- Select Change filter levels
- Choose Moderate or Light, or switch to Custom
- Save your changes
If only one site is blocked, you can allow it:
- Go to Custom
- Select Allowed sites
- Add the website
- Save your changes
Updates usually take effect within about 10 minutes.
If a site still seems to be blocked incorrectly, you can report it by emailing categorisation@bt.com.
