We caught up with Benjamin Elliott, who started off in one of our Desk Based Sales Teams two years ago and is now managing his own team.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up with a real passion for Sport, whether it was watching Ipswich Town FC, playing rugby for Bury St Edmunds RFC, competing on the tennis court or simply spending Sunday mornings carrying my dad’s golf bag. Sport has taught me to respect others, work hard & have a passion for winning -all values that make me who I am today. I went to school in Cambridge, where I was fortunate enough to play Schools Rugby at Twickenham on two occasions. I then fell in love with the study of Medieval History & decided to pursue this at University. I attended Loughborough University as it offered me the opportunity to play sport & also excel in my academics and I was thrilled to receive First Class Honours in my discipline.
Tell us about what you do and where in BT you work?
In October 2017 I moved to BT Enterprise where I joined the Desk Based Sales Team in Birmingham. BT offered me the opportunity to develop my career in Sales whilst allowing me to be closer to my fiancée Victoria, who I’m due to marry this summer.
My Desk Based Account Management role exposed me to high profile government organisations, such as National Air Traffic Services, the Armed Forces, QinetiQ, DSTL & the UK Hydrographic Office. Selling BT’s portfolio into these organisations, was both insightful & rewarding. I was also very fortunate to be invited to the UKAFWSA championships in Méribel. This is a fantastic winter sports event that BT sponsor for the Armed Forces and it was an experience that I will never forget.
Tell us about how BT has supported you to have the career you hoped for?
Alongside this role, my management supported my desire to explore people management. They worked with me to help me shape my career, offering valuable guidance and training throughout. I was constantly learning new skills and for this I am most grateful.
What’s been a recent proud work achievement for you?
I was promoted on April 1st, 2019 to be a Desk Based Sales Manager in BT Major Corporate where I now lead a team of 6 sales professionals, selling into some of BT’s largest corporate customers.
What do you love about working in your team?
We are a new team this financial year and I am proud of the progress that we have made collectively in such a short space of time. I enjoy working in a team, overcoming challenges as a unit & providing an excellent service for our customers. It is the respect that we have for each other that makes BT such a great place to work.
What advice would you give someone looking to join BT?
My advice for anyone looking for a career within BT is to immerse yourself in as much as possible of what the business has to offer - the opportunities are endless.
