At BT we want your experience with us to be a positive one. That’s why we’ve carefully designed a four-step application process for our permanent roles that will help you to show off your amazing qualities and get to know us better.

Begin your journey

Our application process has been designed to bring out the best in you. It’s not about you being the finished article; instead we want you to show us your potential. For us, it’s all about the amazing qualities you can bring to the table.

Apply online

Apply online by answering a few questions about yourself, your background and your work experience.

Online test

Once you’ve applied you’ll be sent an online test to complete. This test will help us get to know you better and find out how you might react to some real life customer situations. It takes around 20 minutes to complete but it’s not timed so feel free to take as long as you want. This is your opportunity to show us how your amazing qualities would make you a great fit for our business. To make sure you complete the test to the best of your ability be sure to find a quiet space where you’ll be free from interruption.

Telephone interview

If you pass our online test, we’ll organise a telephone interview with you. During the call we’ll ask you a series of questions about your experience, what you know about the role and why you think you’d be a great fit for us. Remember, this is a great opportunity for us to get to know you and also for you to ask any questions you might have about us, so make sure to be yourself.

Final assessment

If your telephone interview goes well and you're successful, the final stage is a telephone assessment. Usually you’d come along to the contact centre and meet the team for a face-to-face assessment, but things are a little different at the moment. Before your assessment you'll be sent some example customer calls where you can listen to how our advisors deal with typical situations. Then during your telephone assessment you'll have an interview with a team manager, they'll ask you some questions about the customer calls you've listened to, and you'll role play a couple of scenarios with the manager to get a feel for how you might handle the calls yourself. You'll also get to know more about the company and why people love it so much. We want you to be sure that the role is right for you, which is why we’ll give you plenty of opportunities to ask any questions.

BT is a disability confident employer and we want to make sure that you have the best possible recruitment experience with us. If you have a disability or long-term health condition and adjustments to our process would help you to perform to your full potential, please let us know.

Hints & tips

Be on time

It may sound obvious but make sure you’ve worked out how to get to us and planned your journey in advance. It’s best to leave with plenty of time to spare and keep us updated if you are running behind.

Be yourself

We want you to let your amazing natural qualities shine through, so make sure to be yourself when you come in to meet us. It’s not about telling us what you think we want to hear; be open and honest so that we get to know the real you.

We know that assessment centres can be a bit nerve-wracking, which is why we’ve designed ours to put you at ease. In fact, we’ve had many candidates tell us that our assessment centres were an enjoyable experience for them.

It’s okay to have strengths and weaknesses; remember we’re looking for people with potential and not just the finished article. Just make sure you’ve got plenty of examples of things you’re proud of so we have lots to talk about.
