Nick Procter joined us in 2016 and within 3 years was promoted to a field based Account Director. Nick tells us how he got there.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m 25 years old living in Birmingham, but originally from Lincoln. I'm a part of the Lincoln City Football Supporters Board, meeting with the Chief Executive and Directors on a monthly basis to give a fans perspective on key decisions and events throughout the course of the season. I moved to Birmingham in 2012 for University and completed a Law Degree at the University of Birmingham. I really enjoy living in a big city and have lived in Birmingham ever since, recently buying a house with my girlfriend Sarah. In my spare time, I am a keen amateur cricketer and a level 2 ECB Cricket Coach supporting the junior section at my local club Weoley Hill.

Tell us about what you do and where in BT you work?

In October 2016 I moved to BT Enterprise (the B2B division) where I joined the Desk Based Sales Team in Birmingham. BT offered me the opportunity to develop my career in Sales and work with the Public Sector.

My Desk Based Account Management role gave me a fantastic grounding for my future career in BT and working with Health customers and the NHS allowed me to learn quickly, how important relationship building and quality of service are to the public sector.

Tell us about how BT has supported you to have the career you hoped for?

Alongside this role, my manager Gary Hendy and his Manager Simon Haines really supported my wishes to develop my skillset and take on extra responsibility within the Desk Based teams. This resulted in, becoming the Touchpoint (Customer Satisfaction Survey) lead for the unit. This allowed me to work with the different public sector and corporate desk based teams to highlight the benefits of a successful customer survey and how making customers feel more valued and supported results in more sales in the long term.

What’s been a recent proud work achievement for you?

I was promoted on September 1st 2019 to a field based Account Director Role working as a Acquisition overlay for the Desk Led Public Sector accounts in the East Midlands and East of England. This gives the smaller regional public sector customers access to face to face resource, working alongside and collaboratively with the Desk Based Account managers to build relationships, resolve problems and find solutions that enable us to win business back.

What do you love about working in your team?

We are a new team this financial year of 3, focussing on bringing value and support to the accounts that may not have seen anyone from BT face to face in a number of years. The support and knowledge sharing that we do to enable the team to succeed is fantastic and really represents the values of BT.

What advice would you give someone looking to join BT?

My advice for anyone looking for a career within BT is to work hard, learn as much as you can but be open to wider responsibility away from your core role to understand more about BT as this allows you to become a more rounded person professionally and personally and look to seize opportunities for progression within BT as they arise.
