BT responded swiftly to restore service to the villagers of Dalleagles, Ayrshire after a malicious fire at the telephone exchange cut the village’s telephone service.
Fire services attended the exchange after an intruder deliberately started a blaze which damaged the door and melted copper and fibre cables supporting Customer phone lines and broadband services.
The Openreach and BT Civil Resilience Local Liaison Manager, worked with multiple teams from across BT as soon as the fire service declared the site safe, repairing the damage and replacing cables in order to restore services.
Despite the scale of the damage, and the remote rural location, the BT operational teams brought the exchange back online within 24 hours – around half the time originally estimated for the repairs.
