Our Calling Features help you make the most of your home phone – from managing your calls to taking messages and much more.

You can sign up for just one Calling Feature, or get greater discounts when you choose two or more to create a Calling Features Pack.

  • BT 1471Get the number of the last person who calledNo extra cost

    You don't need to sign up to use this free Calling Feature, just dial 1471 to find out the telephone number of the last person who called you.*

    With 1471 Call Return, you can also return the call straight away, by pressing 3. This service is always on and useful even if you have an answering machine.

    Dialling BT 1471 without using Call Return is free. The Call Return feature of BT 1471 costs a fixed fee of 9.79p. The fee will apply when you press 3 to return your last caller's call. This charge applies whether or not the call is connected.

    If you don't want your number to be obtained through Caller Display or Call Return (1471), dial 141 before making your call. 1471 cannot disclose the number if the number is withheld, unavailable or the call came from a switchboard extension number.

    * Call Return (press 3) element of BT 1471 has a fixed price of 9.79p. The fee will apply when customers press "3" to return the call to the telephone number of the last caller and will be charged regardless of whether or not the call is connected. Dialling BT 1471 without using the Call Return will remain a free service.

  • Call Waiting*Let's you know when someone's trying to get through£1.71 a month

    Never miss calls from friends and relatives if you're talking to someone else.

    Call Waiting gently bleeps to tell you that a second call is on the line. You can either put the first caller on hold and speak to the second caller, or end your first call and speak to the second caller.

  • Call Diversion*Divert your calls to another landline phone or mobile£1.71 a month

    Calls that can't get through to your home phone will still reach you on another fixed line or mobile of your choice.

    Please note: The diverted part of the call is charged to the renter of the service at direct dialled rates, calling customers pay the call charge only to the number dialled.

  • Call Sign*Get an additional number with a different ring tone£1.71 a month

    If you're tired of being your children's receptionist or fed up of answering other people's calls then Call Sign is just what you're looking for. You'll know who each call is for, or who is calling, because calls from certain numbers will have a different ring tone.

    We'll give you an additional number for your phone, which will have a separate ringing tone when it is called. Who you give your Call Sign number to is up to you. It could be your children's friends, or an elderly relative, so you immediately know it's them when the phone rings. You can also use it to separate business and personal calls, or calls from fax machines.

    If your BT phone line was connected after 01/08/07 this feature is currently unavailable on your line.

  • Ring Back*Get an automatic call back from an engaged number29.33p per use or £1.71 a month

    If you've ever had to spend ages trying to get through to a busy number then you'll love Ring Back. There's no need to dial a busy number over and over again, because Ring Back does that for you.

    When you hear a busy tone, dial 5. A recorded message will tell you if your Ring Back request has been accepted. If it has, you can hang up and your phone will keep trying that number until it's free. When it is, your phone will ring and you'll be connected. Ring Back will keep trying a busy number for up to 45 minutes.

  • Reminder Call*Book an alarm call29.33p per use or £1.71 a month

    Acts like an alarm clock, except it lets you book an alarm call days in advance.

    Lets three of you have your say on a call, wherever the other two callers are in the world.

  • BT TextSend and receive text messages from your home phone9.79p per text

    100/200 texts a month included on certain Calling Plans

    With BT Text you can send texts to most landline or mobile numbers in the UK. It's free to register and free to receive text messages.

    All you need to start texting is a compatible BT phone line and a text enabled phone. There's no need to call us to register for the service. As soon as you send your first text message, you'll be registered for BT Text.

    If you have BT's Caller Display service, you'll receive text messages on your home phone, otherwise messages will be delivered as voice messages.

  • BT Answer 1571 voicemailYour answer machine that's always onInclusive

    BT Answer 1571 makes sure you don't miss a call – whether you're away from home or on another call.

    You'll know there's a message waiting for you because you'll hear an interrupted dial tone when you next pick up the phone. To check your messages just dial 1571.

    • Records messages up to 2 minutes long
    • Stores up to 10 messages at a time
    • Keeps messages for 20 days
    • Warns you when your message box is nearly full

    We've upgraded BT Answer 1571 so you can return a call when you've received a message. Simply press the 0 key when you've listened to the message and we'll call the person back straight away.*

    BT Answer 1571 won't cost you anything extra, but you need to sign up for it. You can either do this now online in Your Account, or dial 1571 from your home number (the one you wish to use for BT Answer 1571) and an automated service will talk you through the order process.

    * This feature will not be available if the person leaving the message has chosen to withhold their number or if the call was from an international number. Customers who use Call Barring should note that calls to 1571 will be barred under outgoing Call Barring option 1, this is because calling 1571 may lead to a chargeable call. A facility fee of 9.79p (inc VAT), will also be charged for the call set up attempt. 1571 Call Return will be on all messaging services except BT Answer with Personalised Greeting.

    Customers who do not make chargeable or inclusive calls with BT will be charged for BT Answer 1571 standard service. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable or inclusive calls with BT in that month (excludes calls made with BT Broadband Talk) or BT will charge (incl. VAT) 98p a month for the standard BT Answer 1571 service. Customers who are billed quarterly must make at least six chargeable or inclusive calls with BT within that quarter or BT will charge (incl. VAT) £2.94 a quarter.

  • BT 1571 OnlineView, manage and listen to your home phone messages onlineInclusive

    BT Answer 1571 Online is a great new service that lets you listen to all your home phone voice messages online via BT.com.

    With BT Answer 1571 Online you can access all your messages online wherever you are - and save or delete them in the same way you do with your home phone. You can also see the person who's called as BT 1571 ties in with your BT.com address book.

    Never miss another voicemail message with BT 1571 Text Alerts. Sign up now and you'll get a text to your mobile phone as soon as you receive a new 1571 voicemail. Just call home and the message will be relayed to your mobile.

    Text Alerts are charged to your home number at standard rates. If you have our Unlimited Evening & Weekend or Unlimited Anytime Plan the texts can be taken from your inclusive BT Text bundle.

    To sign up for BT 1571 Text Alerts, call 0800 389 5660. We will send a text message to your mobile to confirm your order. You can use any valid UK mobile number.

    Please note that currently only one mobile can be linked to one mailbox. In order to retrieve messages remotely, press the * button during the greeting message. This service only works in the UK.

    BT Call Minder is the multi-feature answering service that lets you retrieve messages from another landline or mobile, anywhere in the world.

    If you miss a call because your line is engaged, BT Call Minder will take a message for you and call you back when your line becomes free.

    With Call Minder you can also:

    • Choose the number of rings before a call is answered
    • Store up to 30 messages for 30 days
    • Listen to your messages online at BT.com with 1571 Online

    No more mystery callers – NEW Missed Calls Service

    It can be frustrating when someone calls you but doesn't leave a message. BT's new Missed Calls Service identifies up to 3 callers who have called without leaving a message, as long as they haven't withheld their number.

  • BT Privacy at HomeControl your incoming callsNo extra cost

    BT Privacy at Home* gives you more control over incoming calls by registering you for the Telephone Preference Service which helps stop unwanted sales calls.

    It also includes Caller Display**, which lets you see the number of the person who's calling, so you can decide whether or not you want to take the call.

    Caller Display cannot disclose the number if the number is withheld or unavailable. To use this service you'll need either a phone with a screen or a Caller Display unit.

    More about BT Privacy at Home

    * BT Privacy helps stop unwanted sales calls by registering you with the Telephone Preference Service and giving you BT Caller Display at no extra charge. From 1st October 2006, customers who do not make some chargeable calls with BT will be charged for BT Caller Display. Customers with other call providers can still benefit from BT Caller Display at no extra cost if the following calls are made. Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month, other wise BT reserves the right to charge £1.71 a month for BT Caller Display. Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £5.14 a quarter. If you do not currently make calls with BT and would like to start making your calls with us again, please call 0800 121 8088. Alternatively, if you'd like to make one-off calls that are chargeable to your BT bill then simply dial the numbers 1280 before you dial the phone number you wish to call.

    ** Caller Display equipment is required. Caller Display requires a compatible phone, (available at BT Shop online), a BT line and Caller Display equipment. Numbers will not be displayed if the call is from payphones, some switchboards, no-BT network or where a caller's number is withheld.

  • Caller Display*See who's calling before you answer£1.71 a month

    Caller Display* shows you the number of the person calling, so you can decide whether to pick up the phone or leave it to your answering service. If you sign up for BT Privacy at Home**, Caller Display is included FREE.

    Caller Display cannot disclose the number if the number is withheld or unavailable. If your phone doesn't have a compatible screen, you'll need a Caller Display Unit, which you can buy from BT Shop and other retailers.

    Call Barring lets you decide which types of calls can be made from your phone so you're in control of who uses it and how. To make calls to any of the barred numbers, you'll need to enter a PIN number first.

  • Choose to RefuseStop unwanted or nuisance calls£3.28 a month

    Choose to Refuse prevents unwanted or nuisance calls getting through to you.

    If you frequently receive unwanted or nuisance calls from a particular number, you can block that number. And if you change your mind, you can lift the block whenever you like and allow the caller to contact you again.

  • Anonymous Call RejectBlock calls from withheld or anonymous numbers£3.91 a month

    If a caller withholds their number, they will not be able to get through to you. They will only be able to get through if they reveal their number.

    Anonymous Call Reject will not bar incoming calls when the number is 'unavailable' (when the caller has not made any attempt to withhold their number). This can happen in a number of cases, like, for example, if the call originates from an overseas provider.
